Inaugural Chicago Irish Whiskey Festival arrives


Longtime bartender Tony Staunton launches the first Chicago Irish Whiskey Festival 8 p.m. March 2 at the Newport Theater, 956 W. Newport. The event includes an interactive reading of The History of Irish Whiskey. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Wildlife Victoria to benefit the animals affected by the recent brush fires. Events at Harrigan's Pub, 2816 N. Halsted, include: Slane Rocks Karaoke, 9 p.m. March 5. The event will feature great music and whiskey. Proceeds benefits the Helen David Relief Fund, which benefits bartenders affected by breast cancer. The venue also hosts Irish Whiskey Session featuring whiskey from all around the Emerald Isle takes placed 2:30-4:30 p.m. March 7. Galway Bay oysters, homemade soda bread, and traditional Irish music are also on the agenda. Tickets.


The Moxy, 530 N. LaSalle, picks up the action hostng "What’s the T-eeling" cocktail competition with local bars creating drinks embodying the Chicago spirit crafted from Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey, 6-9 p.m. March 11. Gusts will sample eight cocktails along with snacks. The judges include: Cristiana DeLucca (The Aviary / Clark Street Ale House), Russell Shearer (Executive Chef Renaissance Hotel), Daniel de Oliveira (Director of Education and Mixology for SGWS Illinois). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Golden Rule Charity which helps members of the hospitality industry in times of need. Tickets.
