Geja's 45th Annual Professional/Amateur Wine Tasting Contest

Geja’s Café, 340 West Armitage, hosts the 45th Annual Professional/Amateur Wine Tasting Contest 1 p.m. November 4. John Davis, former owner of Geja’s Café and creator of the Pro/Am contest, will serve as a guest judge for the competition. 

Contestants (professionals and amateurs) are presented with eight unmarked carafes of wine that they must identity by grape, place of origin, and vintage. The highest scorer in each category receives an engraved crystal wine decanter. To enter the competition, contestants pay an entrance fee of $30 and must be 21 years of age or older. Artango's Halloween celebration

Artango Bar and Steakhouse, 4767 N. Lincoln, welcomes guests for a Halloween celebration with a Latin American twist, beginning 4 p.m. October 27with a "Buenos Aires Never Sleeps," menu, theme cocktail and live music.

Executive Chef Saul Roman will present a three course Argentine dinner menu for $55 per guest. The meal includes empanadas or salad, asado Argentino (mixed grill with flank steak, short ribs, morcilla and chorizo paired with homemade chimichurri, Malbec sauce and hand-cut fried potatoes). Desert is flan or dulce de leche cake. 

The restaurant congers up the crafty La Bruja ("the witch") cocktail (Rémy Martin cognac; Journeyman Distillery's O.C.G. apple cider liqueur, allspice liqueur, cinnamon syrup and fresh squeezed lemon juice ($10).

The city's newest VU Rooftop Bar, (located 22 stories above McCormick Place) l33 East Cermak, officially opens October 18. 

Executive Chef Nolan Narut, formerly of Ella Elli and Stefani Prime, heads up the kitchen duties while advanced sommelier John Williams curates a locally sourced beverage program developed by Advanced Sommelier John Williams. The urban space touts over 13,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space that includes a karaoke room, boardroom, club bar, and solarium bar.

TheWit Hotel, 201 N. State, kicks off its Halloween festivities with two premier events. The first, a Thriller-themed Halloween Party, 9 p.m. October 26 featuring live music and a Michael Jackson appearance. A costume contest, for the chance to win four tickets to the venue's New Year's Eve Monte Carlo party ($1000 value), will be held. The party is free, but there is a $35 cover fee to get into TheROOF. The fee is $20 if you register here.

The second, an exclusive movie screening of "IT," 6 p.m. October 31 at ROOF. Complimentary popcorn will be available throughout the film. An “IT” cocktail will be available for an additional cost. Pennywise the clown will make an special appearance during the event. 

In addition, the hotel's State and Lake Chicago Tavern's Pastry chef Toni Roberts has designed a curated flights of Halloween beer partnered with homemade versions of iconic candies, available October 26-31. Pairings include: 2Towns Ciderhouse Hollow Jack’d Imperial pumpkin cider paired with chocolate-pumpkin candies; Solemn Oath End All IPA paired with tropical fruit candies, Great Central Festzelt Oktoberfest Ale partnered with malted milk balls and Wild Onion Radio Free Pilsner with Lemonheads.
