NAHA's lunch service returns

Jerk, Seafood and Vegan Fest




There's a lot going on in the city this weekend including the Jerk, Seafood and Vegan Festival taking place September 30-October 1, at 2400 S. Dearborn, between State and Federal. 

The event salutes Martin's International 35th anniversary of its south loop location at 1325 S. Wabash. foods from jerk, seafood, vegan soul, vegetarian, barbecue and sweets.  

Live performances by Calypso Rose, K' Jon, A.J. Brown (reggae); Terisa Griffin (R&B); Indika Reggae band; J Kwest. View complete lineup. Hours are noon-10 p.m. $5 admission.

Chicago Bacon and Beer Classic 2017

The Chicago Bacon and Beer Festival takes place September 30, Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington. There will be two admission times 1 or 6 p.m. (VIP admission noon or 5 p.m.).

More than 50 craft beer vendors will be in attendance. In addition guests will also be feted to more than 25 bacon-centric dishes. For extreme bacon lovers there will be a three hour window for unlimited bacon sampling. Live music, games and a bacon-eating contest round out the festivities. Tickets are $55-$69, includes commemorative cup.

Hakka Bakka celebrates second anniversary

Hakka Bakka Kati Rolls, 1251 W. Fullerton, celebrates its second anniversary October 1, with an all-day party, kicking off at 11 a.m., on the patio. 

Guests will be feted with a special $2 menu featuring items such as veggie samosas, Masala fries, lentil soup, cumin rice and mango lassi.  The restaurant will also serve up their signature— grilled chicken tikka leg quarters, cooked outside on the grill for $6. Complimentary beer and wine samples will be available for guests 21 and over (valid proof required). Beginning September 25 the restaurant will hold an Anniversary raffle.

Fulton Market Harvest Fest

The Second Annual Fulton Market Harvest Fest, curated by chefs Stephanie Izard (Girl and Goat) and Paul Kahan (Pulican), takes place September 29-October 1 at Fulton Market and Halsted Street. 

Other chefs joining in the event include Bill Kim (Belly Q; Urban Belly), Jimmy Papadopoulos (Boka) and celebrity/television chef Chris Cosentno. Along with the opportunity to sample food and beverages food fest-goers can attend chef demonstrations along with specialty food and beverage classes. Charity beer bash

Easy Bar, 1944 W. Division, hosts "Hops for a Cause," a hurricane, flood and earthquake benefit 7- 11 p.m. September 28. The bar partners with several breweries for the occasion featuring $3-$4 beers. 

Brewmeisters include: Alarmist Brewing, 2 Towns Cider, Anchor Brewing, Revolution Brewing, Maplewood Brewing, Around The Bend Brewing, Founders Brewing Co., and Oskar Blues Brewing. All proceeds will be donated to the relief efforts.

Brooklyn Brewery’s Chicago Beer Mansion event

Brooklyn Brewery’s Chicago Beer Mansion returns 6-10 p.m. September 22-23, Morgan's on Fulton, 905 W. Fulton. The popular interactive beer bash features brews from local breweries, food and live music. Part of a seven-city tour the event will feature five tasting rooms and a host of fun. 

Meander through the mansion to sample Brooklyn Brewery beers along with samples from Chicago-based brewers that include: Solemn Oath; Hopewell Brewing Company and Marz Community Brewing. Food trucks include Budlong Hot Chicken; Taco in a Bag and Bombay Wraps. Live performances include indie rock band Deeper and post punk outfit Negative Scanner; psychedelic-pop folk singer Peter Stringer-Hye and classic rockers Connections. Tickets are $65 and are available online or at the door until sold out.

Taste Talks weekend with hosts Andrew Zimmerman and Fabio Viviani

The Fourth Annual Taste Talks with Travel Channel's " Bizarre Food" host Andrew Zimmerman and celebrity chef Fabio Viviani, takes place October 6-8 at Revival Food Hall, 125 S. Clark. 

In addition to the food conferences and panel discussions, breakout events, open to the public, will take place in other locations throughout the weekend, including  an opening party 6-8 p.m. October 6 at the Virgin Hotel, 203 N. Wabash; curated seated family-style dinner with dishes prepared by multiple chefs 6-9 p.m. October 7 and celebrity cookout in Logan Square's Palmer Square at Kedzie Avenue and Hulmboldt Blvd. There will be only two entry times: noon and 2:30 p.m.


Cookout particpants include: Andrew Zimmerman; Noah Sandoval (Food & Wine's Best New Chef 2017/Oriole); Fabio Viviani (Mercadito; Siena Tavern; Prime & Provision); Abe Conlon (Fat Rice); Dan Salls (Quiote) and Diana Davila (Mi Tocaya Antojeria).

Maple and Ash's theatrical cocktail presentations

Maple and Ash, 8 W. Maple, partners with Lookingglass Theatre Company for a series of cocktails saluting the production in residence beginning October 4 with Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch (Glenmorangie 10-year Original Scotch, David Nicholson Bourbon, Grand Marnier, Cocchi di Torino and Ardbeg 10 year-old Islay Scotch) inspired by Charles Dickens' "Hard Times," running October 4-January 14, 2018. Visitors showing their ticket stub for the current production will receive a complimentary drink, including the featured number.

The coordinating drink/production continues with "Transient Sidecar (Plantation Rum, Pierre Ferrand Cognac, triple sec and lemon juice, a play on the basic sidecar cocktail) inspired by "Plantation," running February 21-April 22, 2018, followed by Stark and Doom (Goslings Dark Rum, ginger beer, orange syrup and lime juice, a play on a classic Dark & Stormy) for "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," May 23-August 19, 2018.

Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar's new burger

Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar, 2700 W. Chicago, added a burger to its happy hour menu. 

The "No Regrets" caviar burger (Heritage wood grilled steak burger, duck confit rillette, bone marrow butter, duck egg, topped with 15 grams of bowfin caviar; $30) is available 3:30-5:30 p.m. daily. Chicharron and pickles can be added for an additional $5. 

Other happenings at the restaurant include Industry Monday featuring an array of specials that include: $1 oysters; half priced baked goods (all day) and half priced desserts (evening only); and a house-smoked Polish sausage with fries, Pilsner Urquell and a choice of f house-infused vodka shot; $15.

Grand Cochon comes to Chicago

For the first time ever the winner of the Grand Cochon 14-city culinary competition will be crowned in Chicago. The competition's finale takes place 5:55 p.m. October 1 at Morgan Manufacturing, 401 N. Morgan. VIP admission is 5 p.m. The multiple-city Cochon555 winners, including Chicago's Ricardo Jarquin of Travelle Kitchen and Bar, will be on hand for the announcement of the winner taking place at 8:30 p.m. General admission begins at $150.
