Dine Out on Sheffield kicks off today


Lakeview East hosts Dine Out on Sheffield: Taking it to the Streets beginning noon July 31on Sheffield Ave., between Belmont and School streets.

Featured restaurants are Trader Todd's; Sheffield's Wine & Beer Garden; Figo Wine Bar; Barangaroos Aussie Pies and Cheesie's Pub & Grub. The event runs July 31-August 2.

Prairie Grass Cafe's week of deals


Prairie Grass Cafe rounds out the week with the following specials:

Thursday: crispy chicken dinner package for two (whole boneless chicken, fresh Mozzarella salad with tomato, torn bread, arugula, basil and purslane with banana cream pie for dessert; $65. A second option is a shrimp burger with Might Vine tomatoes, grilled jalapeno and spicy aioli; $18. Drink specials are PGC gin martini with Deaths Door gin; Sambuca and dry vermouth; $13. Friday: spicy marinated pork dinner for two (spicy marinated pork; purslane slaw and corn polenta; guacamole with corn and tortilla chips; fresh berries and peaches with vanilla ice cream and berry sauce); $68.  Other options are: sesame crusted Ahi tuna seared rare with chopped salad of bok choy; Arrowhead cabbage; orange Heirloom tomato; purslane; peanuts and button shiso with citrus vinaigrette; $33 (pictured). Saturday:  Warm lobster sandwich with fresh spinach, avocado; Mighty Vine tomatoes, grilled jalapeno and spicy aioli; $30.  Second option: Duck dinner package for two (roasted crispy half duck; duck sauce; corn puree; blackberry-cucumber salad and blackberry cream pie; $90. Sunday:  Chicken pot pie with carrots, celery, mushrooms peas and onion; $22.50. Second option: skirt steak salad with corn, black bean; crushed tortilla chips, grilled jalapeno and summer tomatoes; $32. Whole peach upside down cake, $18. Fifty/50s wing ding deal


Fifty/50, 2047 W. Division, hosts a chicken wing special kicking of National Chicken Wing Day (July 29).

 The bar will feature 6 bone-in wings, two beers and two shots for $20 through August 4.

Guests can select from a variety of wing sauce options including: Buffalo; spicy garlic; smokey bbq; sweet chili cilantro and honey-orange teriyaki.

Shot options are: Benchmark Bourbon; Monte Alban Silver; Ketel One; Captain Morgan white rum and Beefeater gin. Domestic and craft beer selections only.

Miki Park's picnic baskets


Miki’s Park, 109 W. Hubbard, launched a new catering initiative  offering picnic style trays (red and white gingham accents included). 

Two options: Bang Bang Basket, $50 and Buddah Basket (vegetarian), $40 are perfect for group gatherings in the park or the backyard.

The Bang Bang Basket includes: choice five Seoul sliders (double beef patty with gouchujang, sweet glaze, house made pickles on a butter bun) or Korean red hots (all beef hot dog with gochu aioli, pickled slaw and Miki's Spice; K-pop chicken (house breaded popcorn chicken sprinkled with Miki's Spice with Miki's signature sweet and sticky sauce and gochu aioli); Just Fries (fast-food style fries coated with Miki Spice, gochu aioli and spicy ketchup and, Banchans (house pickled cucumbers and kimchi cucumbers. 

The Buddha Basket features: Omma's dumplings (vegetarian dumplings with a chili soy dipping saude); RAD salad (pickled watermelon radish, greens, carrots, kimchi cucumbers, purple cabage topped with a house made tangy dressing); Veggie Bap (house made rice topped with kimchi cucumbers, pickled cabbage, six-minutes egg and a dollop of cochujang); Just Fries (fast-food style fries coated with Miki Spice, gochu aioli and spicy ketchup and, Banchans (house pickled cucumbers and kimchi cucumbers.

Monday is the last day for 3Fork's buy a burger, give a burger to a local first responder program


III Forks Prime Steakhouse, 180 N. Field Blvd., invites dining guests to participate in their "buy a burger, give a burger" program going on every Monday in July.

With each certified Angus beef burger (4-year aged cheddar and lemon aïoli, served with housemade chips ($18)) purchase by a guest, III Forks will donate a burger to a local first responder.

The burger is available in the restaurant's dining room, on the rooftop and curbside pick-up or delivery.

A portion of the proceeds ($1 from every pint sold) will benefit non-profit organization YouthBuild Lake Countyin support of their vision to see self-sufficient young adults thriving and improving their communities.

Avli launches Happy Hour menu

Avli, 702 N. Wells, has launched a happy hour menu, available 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The drink  menu features glasses of Greek red, white and rosè wines; $6 each; $7 frozen cocktails such as mastica lemonada and paloma; $7; $24 buckets of hard seltzers and Greek beers (5); $24. In addition select shots including, ouzo and mastica are availble for $5 each.

A $5 bite mens includes: kataifi prawns (2), fried pepperoncini stuffed with feta and pork souvlakia (2). 

Greek spreads including: hummus (chickpea and tahini), taramosalata (cod roe), and melitzanosalata (eggplant) are prices three for $10. 

The Mezethakia, or “Greek smorgasbord” include: mini gyros (2), mini lamb sliders (2), Greek sausage, Greek cheese, grilled veggies and grilled pita bread; $20. Full menu found here.

The restaurant offers seating on its new, large patio that is covered for rain or shine dining, as well as limited seating indoors. The patio is meant to evoke a feeling of being in Mykonos, Greece. Reservations encouraged.

Elizabeth's weekly Thursday-Saturday special


Elizabeth Restaurant, 4835 N. Western, is offering a special dinner, available 5-7 p.m. July 23-25 (pick up only).

The specialty dish is charred chicken pozole verde with picked summer vegetables, hominy and herb lime rice; farmers greens salad with preserved lemon vinaigrette; paprika spiced dinner roll; whipped pink peppercorn butter. Dessert is roasted pineapple upside down cake with pineapple vinegar frosting; $35.

In addition pastry box filled with an array of treats will be available for pick up between 5-7 p.m. July 25 only; $20. The box includes Mick Klug raspberry-cardamom coffee cake; charred summer peach and honey rye danish and pickled blueberry milk bread babka. Limited availability.

Empirical Brewery launched new beer to encourage and celebrate change

Empirical Brewery, has launched New Style Community Lager with proceeds from sales being put back into the community to "encourage and celebrate" positive change in our uncertain times.

The Brewery hopes to bring attention to community organizations: Brave Space Alliance and My Block, My Hood, My City. The specialty beer will be around until supplies run out.


In addition to being sold in the Empirical Brewery taproom, 801 W. Foster Ave., New Style Community Lager will be available in cans. In compliance with the new COVID-19 measures the updated Empirical taproom features a host of new sanitation measures along with a new patio area. Limited indoor seating is also available.

The company will also be running an on-site food drive in coordination with Lakeview Pantry to help bolster the message of the importance of community involvement.

Eden permanently closed its door at the end of dinner service July 18


Another casualty of the the COVID-19 crisis.

After finally reopening in June, Eden, 1748 W. Lake St., closed its doors permanently at the end of dinner service July 18.

Principal owner Jody Fyfe and Chef/partner Devon Quinn decision came about after taking a big hit during the COVID-19 crisis. A statement released by the restaurant stated, "the larger economic impact from the conronavirus pandemic  has made it impossible for us to sustain operations."

Quinn, who maintained an onsite greenhouse where he grew ingredients for both the food and cocktail menus, will move his greenhouse slats to a garden project in Chicago.

Up next in The Goddess and Grocer's rotation of at home family meal kits for four is steak skewers (ribeye and red onion skewers with blue cheese dipping sauce); spinach salad with blueberries, blue cheese, almonds in a balsamic vinairgrette; twice baked potatoes; grilled green beans and S'mores cheesecake; $85. Available July 20-August 1.

The last day the current jerk night meal kit ($75) will be available is July 18.
