Ravenswood Farmers Market special Mother's Day gift market


Mark your calendar the Ravenswood Farmers Market, 4900 N. Damen, will open for a special Mother's Day market 4-8 p.m. May 10. Local favorite Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits Shop will be among the food vendors.

Local artists will be on hand to offer unique gifts including handmade jewelry from Allison Mooney Design, jl marie jewelry. Home inspired designs from MAKA designs Lifestyle by Alexandra Jamrose. MAK National Burger Month selections


MAK Restaurant, 1924 W.  celebrates National burger Month with two special selections the MAK burger (half-pound of Angus beef hand-formed patty, marinated and topped with lettuce and zesty cucumbers. American Swiss cheese is optional.)and the Spicy MAK Burger (Half-pound of Angus beef hand-formed patty, marinated and topped with a jalapeño cilantro paste, American Swiss cheese and lettuce) both served on a sesame bun with fries, available May 1-31; $10 each.

Roof on theWit Derby day action


Roof on theWit, 201 N. State, salutes the Kentucky Derby (May 6) in grand fashion with a party and best dressed runway contest. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. 

All guests are welcome to enter the Best Dressed Runway Contest sign up is at 4 p.m.  The contest gets under way at 6 p.m. The Grand Prize winner will receive an all-expenses paid getaway weekend for two to the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky, the runner up will receive a reserved private cabana at the ROOF Memorial Day JetSet Kickoff Celebration. Purple Asparagus fundraiser


NBC's Siafa Lewis emcees Purple By Night , a fundraiser in support of Purple Asparagus, a nonprofit organization founded by Melissa Graham, which educates children, families and the community about eating that’s good for the body and the planet, 6-9 p.m. April 30, The Dawson, 730 W. Grand; $85, includes food and open bar featuring Lagunitas beer, Candid wines and cocktails crafted with Beam Suntory. Tickets are $95, at the door.

The evening includes live music by local band Off the Vine and a silent auction.

Quincy Street Distillery's new handcrafted whiskey


Binny's Beverage Depot and Quincy Street Distillery owner and distiller Derrick Mancini launch North American Steamship Rye (N.A.S.R.) straight single malt rye bottled in Bond whiskey (aged four years in new oak barrels), during a tasting 6-8 p.m. April 28, in the tasting room at Binny's Lincoln Park location, 1720 N. Marcey. 

Bottles, 750 ml, 100 proof whiskey, will be available for purchase; $66.

Staytion Market & Bar's Rosé event


Staytion Market & Bar, 1 W. Upper Wacker Drive, is hosting a World Tour of Rosé event, featuring samples from around the world including France, Greece, Italy, Spain, South America, Australia, South Africa,  5-7 p.m. April 27.

Umami's Cindy Crawford's artist series burger


Umami launched the new artist series selection, Cindy Crawford's burger and husband Rande Gerber's spicy margarita. Cindy's casa burger is a fusion of Mexican and American flavors with a umami twist (two jalapeno stuffed beef patties, miso mustard, crushed avocado, caramelized onions, fresh tomato, butter lettuce, American cheese topped with tortilla chips tossed in a chilaquiles-style salsa brava, dusted with fresco). 

The burger and margarita are available through May 12 at participating locations, with $1 from each Cindy’s Casa Burger sold benefitting the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, WI.

Prairie Grass Cafe partners with the Shedd Aquarium to go strawless

Beginning April 22 (Earth Day) Prairie Grass Cafe, 601 Skokie Blvd., Northbrook, in a partnership with the Shedd Aquarium is going strawless. Guests will no longer be offered plastic straws, however, if a straw is requested visitors will be provided a paper or biodegradable version.

The effort is a means to help not only save the environment, as plastic does not breakdown and are difficult to recycle, but to help aquatic life whose habitat is the sea and lakes, that are being harmed.

Common Threads' Chef takeover pop-up dinner is 5-8:30 p.m. April 30, Prime & Provisions Steakhouse, 222 N. LaSalle; $175.

 The evening begins passed appetizers created by Jeremy Leven of mfk. accompanied with specialty cocktails. 

Chefs preparing the Charlie Trotter-inspired five-course meal are: Fabio Vivani (Prime and Provisions; Bar Siena, pictured); Anita Lo (Annisa); Brad Kilgore (Alter); JJ Johnson (Minton's) and Dana Cree (The Publican).  Master sommelier Alvaado will select wines to be paired with each course. The evening also includes live music and a silent auction. 

The event is the first of four Common Threads pop-up dinners taking place throughout the year in various locations (Los Angeles (May 12); Miami and New York (dates to be determined).  Purchase tickets.

Icelandic chef  Viktor Orn Andresson heads to Chicago to partner with executive chef  James Lintelmann of Baptiste & Bottle, 101 E. Erie, for 2017 Taste of Iceland Chicago Taking place April 20-23; $75.
Andresson, a member of the 2017 Bocuse National Culinary Team, whose team took the bronze meda,l with Lintelmann, create a four-course, prix fixe menu paired with cocktails by Brennivin's 2015 cocktail champion, Kari Sigurosson and host mixologist Michael Fawthrop to create specialty cocktails for the occasion featuring Iceland's Reyka Vodka and aquavit. Stan's Donuts & Coffee salutes the Rolling Stones

Stan's Donuts & Coffee was selected to create a special edition, "Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones Donut," in celebration of the iconic rock groups  first-ever major exhibit, which is now in Chicago after making its US premiere in New York City. 

The donut, yeast-raised Bismark with a raspberry jam filling, coated in a vanilla glaze, topped with a hand-airbrushed sugary rendition of John Pasche's famous Rolling Stones "Hot Lips" logo; ($4.39). Due to the intricate detailing, the artisan pastry, available April 17-30, is limited to one per customer.

The "Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones" is  on display at Navy Piers Festival Hall B, 600 E. Grand, through July 30.

Tribes' live jazz Easter brunch

Tribes Alehouse, Tinley Park (9501 W. 171st) and Tribes Brewing Company, Mokena (11220 W. Lincoln Highway) are hosting and Easter buffet brunch beginning 10 a.m. April 16. The Tinley Park location will feature live jazz featuring the Jeff Bella Jazz Trio, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

The buffet will feature seafood options such as poached whole Atlantic salmon, seafood salad, peel 'n eat shrimp and Cajun crawfish salad with Cajun remoulade. A hearty array of brunch selections include: country biscuits and gravy, honey glazed ham with Pommery mustard, grilled chicken marsala, traditional eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce, seasonal vegetable frittata, tenderloin of beef with horseradish cream, garlic and her roasted lamb with mint pesto, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and French toast. A selection of salads and sides features breakfast potatoes, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, roasted tomato, onion and cucumber salad, grilled ratatouille, vegetable crudite with roasted red pepper mousse and mixed greens chopped Caesar salad.  And, not to go unmentioned a sweets selection that includes an assortment of cheesecakes, tarts, pastries and mini cream puffs. 


Seatings are 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Brunch cost is $28, adults; $12, kids age 5-12. Kids under age 5 eat free. Reservations

More than 100 area restaurants salute James Beard Eats Week April 21-May 1 with specialty dishes. The week-long event is the lead-in to The 2017 James Beard Awards Ceremony and Gala taking place 6 p.m. May 1, Civic Opera House, 20 N. Tin Cup golf theme restaurant now open

Tin Cup, in the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center, 3500 Midwest Road, Oak Brook in now open. 

The golf-theme gastro pub, officially opened in the former spot where The Grille was located. The restaurant, sporting made from scratch items made with locally source ingredients features golf-centric items such as the signature Tin Cup burger (Angus burger, cheddar cheese, thick sliced bacon, lettuce tomato and onion; $12, includes choice of fries, sweet potato fries, chips or fruit cup); 9-iron steak salad (flat iron steak, roasted mushrooms, crumbled bleu cheese, grape tomatoes, spinach fried onions with warm pancetta mustard dressing; $15) and 19th hole sliders (Angus beef, cheddar cheese, onion with fries; $12). 

Drink selections include: locally-based micro brews including Downers Grove-based Alter Brewing, along with an exclusive partnership with Tin Cup branded whiskey.

Buona is the new Crosstown Classic

Buona, the original Italian beef, brings a new meaning to the crosstown classic, now the official Italian beef of both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. For the 2017 season the company adds an Italian beef/sausage combo and an Italian sausage sandwich to Wrigley food Buona line-up. The company kicks off the introduction with celebration as the official beef of Chicago with a promotion around the pairing of White Sox Hall of Fame player Frank Thomas and world champion Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
