Tuman's Tap & Gill 4th of July specials

Tuman’s Tap & Grill, 2159 W. Chicago Ave., kicks off an Independence Day celebration with specials beginning July 3. The main features will be a watermelon mojito (Cruzan light rum, fresh-squeezed watermelon juice and fresh mint; $11) is available 3-11 p.m. July 3; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 4-5.

The Paulina Meat Market smoked Thuringer brat dinner (two locally made brats, braised cabbage, roasted potatoes and German mustard; $14) will be available 3-11 p.m. July 3; 2-11 p.m. July 4 and July 5. Seating is first come, first served. No reservations.

A Fourth of July weekend brunch and all day menu will be available as well. 

The all-day menu (available 2-11 p.m. July 4-5) highlights include:  grilled shrimp Banh Mi (wild-caught Gulf Coast shrimp, Vietnamese caramel, pickled carrot/daikon radish, cilantro and Sriracha aioli; $16); grilled Amish chicken breast sandwich (herb aioli, arugula and applewood-smoked bacon; $15) and a selection of burgers prepared with Slagel Family Farm's blend of sirloin, short rib and chuck. Among the specialty items is the gorgonzola burger (shallot port reduction, caramelized onions and gorgonzola cheese; $16).

Finally more filling dishes such as a roasted Amish chicken, with mashed potatoes, shallot pan gravy and seasonal vegetables ($19), will be available after 5 p.m. July 3-5. Call: 773-782-1400.

Mac's is back and geared up for the 4th of July


Mac's Wood Grilled, 1801 W. Division, is featuring a 4th of July brunch 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 4. A  host of holiday-inspired drinks are also on the menu. Look for varieties such as berry vodka lemonade; berry bombs (berry vodka and Red Bull) and American mules (house vodka, ginger beer and lime juice).

The restaurant, which reopened in compliance with the state and city's Phase 4 guidelines June 26 for indoor seating, will offer other Independence Day selection such as those found on the all-day menu that includes: Frisco chicken sandwich (grilled Miller Poultry Amish chicken breast, pine-nut-and basil pesto, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, lettuce and rosemary aioli on sourdough; $14); and Veggie Burger (six-oz. plant-based patty with garlic aioli and pine nut-and-basil pesto on a potato bun; $12). Available 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

A variety of burgers include hickory-and-oak grilled burgers made with a custom sirloin-chuck-short rib blend from Slagel Family Farm served on potato buns. Call 773-782-4400.

Goddess and Grocer 4th of July grill two box and more


In a salute to Independence Day The Goddess and Grocer is offering a round of specialty items that includes: The Goddess Grill Box (for two): appetizer, summer side or salad ready to grill entrees and desserts ($60).

Goddess Clucket Bucket (serves 3-4): eight pieces of fried chicken, chili-infused maple honey; two summer sides and dessert. 

For an additional price customers can add the Goddess 4th of July cake (8" or 10") to their order. a bartender batch cocktail add-ons is also available.

Hubbard Inn and Joy District now open for indoors business


Hubbard Inn; Blue Violet at Hubbard Inn (pictured) and Joy District and Parlay at Joy District are reopening June 26 and will operate under the City of Chicago's mandates imposed for the Phase 4 opening stage.

Hubbard Inn, 110 W. Hubbard, will have indoor seating for 50 on the first level and an additional 50 seats in the Blue Violet room on the second level. There will be a limited food menu. Reservations recommended. Call: 312-273-6207.

Joy District's Parlay, 112 W. Hubbard, accommodates seating for 50. The restaurant also features a rooftop that will be open for business.

The Clubhouse Oak Brook, 298 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, re-opens for indoor dining June 26. Al fresco dining, curbside pickup and delivery will also be available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Ask Chef's Anything benefit auction


Chefs aren't only creative in the kitchen but are getting creative in virtual land as well. Area chefs are auctioning 30 minutes of their time for a one-on-one virtual conversation with the highest bidder for each participants during the Ask Chef's Anything auction.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit Chicago’s undocumented hospitality community by distributing grocery boxes in partnership with Restaurant Opportunities Center (ROC), a nonprofit fighting to improve wages and working conditions for the nation’s restaurant workforce) and Chefs’ Warehouse (where we’re able to purchase food at a highly discounted rate in addition to product donations).  Bids can be placed until 8 p.m. June 20.

Elizabeth Restaurant and Eve Studnicka of Dinner at the Grotto join in Bakers Against Racism virtual bake sale


More than 2400 pastry chef have join the fight against racism including Kristi Isn't, pastry and sous chef of Elizabeth Restaurant, 2835 N. Western and Eve Studnicka of Dinner at the Grotto for a virtual bake sale organized by Bakers Against Racism.

A $40 pastry box includes: spelt + preserved lemon buttermilk cake, rose pickled mcklug strawberries, garden thyme buttercream; smoked chocolate brownie, honeycomb, coconut milk caramel; cardamom spiced cinnamon bun, pistachio cream cheese frosting; Michigan blueberry chevre, basil and five spice hand pie; brown butter oatmeal sandwich cookie, Italian butter
cookie biscoff, rhubarb preserves and Earl Grey black currant drinking chocolate mix.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit Brave Space Alliance, a black-led trans center on the city's South Side. Orders can be placed here beginning 10 a.m. June 15. Orders will be available for pickup 2-4 p.m. June 20 at Elizabeth Restaurant.

Global bartender Charles Joly hosts virtual Father's Day cocktail class


Virtual Dining Chicago hosts a Father's Day Cocktail Class with famed mixologist Charles Joly 6 p.m. June 18.

The event, in partnership with the Trotter Project, is in support of food-deficient Chicago communities.

The DIY kit includes: two pre-made cocktails along with the ingredients for two cocktails, including whiskey, for the cocktails made during the class. A Boston shaker and Hawthorne strainer are available for an additional price.

Orders for kits must be placed by noon June 15.  Delivery ($5) is June 17. See restrictions for delivery area before ordering. Place order.
