Third Annual "Saints + Sours at ROOF" Event Coming Up

The third annual "Saints + Sours at ROOF," winter mix-off event takes place 6-9 p.m. February 6 at Roof on theWit, 201 N. State. The event features top Midwest mixologists creating their idea of the perfect Angel’s Envy Sour, the winner to be crowned the 2017 Winter Mix-Off Champion.

Tickets are $40, includes samples from all ten participating mixologists, beer & wine, brick-oven pizza and live entertainment.

Fountainhead's Robert Burns Bash

Fountainhead, 1970 W. Montrose, pays its annual tribute to Scottish poet Robert Burns' birthday with its "Whisky Drams and Poetry Slams" event, 6-10 p.m. January 25. A special line-u of whisk(e)y pours will be featured along Harviestoun Brewery Ola Dubh Scotch Ale aged in Highland Park barrels; Bellhaven Scottish Ale and Saugatuck Brewing Company Peat Monster Brown Ale aged in Ardbeg barrels. Whiskey drams start at $8. Beers start at $7. 

Food specials include Scotch eggs and lamb and parsnip meat pies. Guests will be feted to readings of Burns' poetry.

Chef Anselmo Ramirez, Ixcateco Grill, 3402 W. Montrose, new wintwer menu introduces five new items that includes two appetizers: ensalata de la casa (cherry tomatoes, almonds, cincho queso, crispy corn tortilla in lemon dressing over a bed of mixed greens; $7) and queso fundidio melted Chihuahua cheese, sauteed vegetables or wood grilled chicken, poblano rajas and molcajete sauce; $9).

Three new entrees include salmon en crema (wood-grilled salmon in a tomatillo cream sauce over white rice, plantains and micro greens; $19); pozole de camarones (wood-grilled shrimp in hominy stew with crab, cabbage, radishes and oregano; $20) and New York strip a la Mexicana (wood-grilled NY strip steak in a mole agostadero sauce with chunky garlic mashed potatoes, dried fruit garnished with sesame seeds; $23).
