Slurping Turtle NYD pajama brunch

Slurping Turtle, 116 W. Hubbard, hosts an all-day pajama brunch beginning 11 a.m. January 1. 

Menu items: duck fat fried chicken and waffles: four pieces of soy-sesame marinated chicken fried in duck fat, matcha waffles with buckwheat honey and whipped butter; hangover ramen: a breakfast twist on a favorite slurp, includes tan tan and tonkotsu broth with spicy pork miso paste, molten egg, bok choy, kimchi, bean sprouts, fried pork belly and duck fat friend chicken; breakfast bao: a better Benedict, served on a steamed lotus bun with pork belly, sunny side up egg, and hollandaise sauce; morning After Chahan: Japanese fried rice with egg, vegetable medley, scallions, sesame seeds—stir-fried with spicy pork miso, topped with fried chicken, kimchi, bean sprouts, and bok choy.

Drink: Asian Mary: Slurping Turtle’s delicious twist on a Bloody Mary (togarashi rim, skewer with molten egg, meatball, and edamame); Rosemosa (update on the classic mimosa, this fizzy delight is made with sparkling rose and orange juice; Walk of Shame (mornings are no match for this sunny lemonade margarita).

Le Colonial closing date extend to end of January 2019

Le Colonial, 937 N. Rush, which previously announced the closing of its long-time location on December 31 to reopen at a new Oak street address, has extended its stay at the old location through January 2019.

The restaurant's owners, at the request of their loyal patrons of the last 22 years, decided to postpone the date as a courtesy to patrons who might be traveling or otherwise engaged during the holiday season.

Guests visiting during the extended period might have the opportunity to taste new menu items created bye executive chef Quoc Luong for the new location. The restaurant opens in its new location during early to mid-winter.

State and Lake Tavern serves up NYE special menu

State and Lake Chicago Tavern in theWit Hotel, 201 N. State, joins in the countdown to the new year with a special a la carte New Year's Eve menu designed by Executive Chef Nathan Sears.

Menu items, ranging in price from $14-55, include starter options that include: French Onion soup, with onions caramelized in duck fat, beer broth, croutons, and broiled mozzarella; house-cured Wagyu bresaola “carpaccio” topped with black truffle aioli, arugula, parmesan, and pickled mustard seeds, acorn finished prosciutto and stewed red grape conserva, complete with fresh green grapes, ricotta salata, basil and crostini.

Main entree selections include: 10-ounce Filet Mignon, with Maître ‘d butter, arugula, and choice of béarnaise or bordelaise sauce; 12-ounce Cheshire pork chop with apple chestnut relish and a caramelized onion jus; seared halibut with braised root broth, marinated enoki mushrooms, bok choy and a herb salad.

Sweet options include: banana cream pie bombe coated with rum roasted bananas and candied walnuts, 12 layer cookies and cream cake as well as a dessert special for two: cream cake with dark chocolate ganache, vanilla bean cream, and chocolate dipped macarons.

Arun's gets the jump on NYE

Arun's Thai Restaurant, 4156 N. Kedzie is offering a 12-course New's Year's Eve dinner menu beginning 5 p.m. December 31; $150.

James Beard Award-winning chef Arun Sampanthavivat's has designed a visual masterpiece in selection dishes to be served. Dishes include: Kheow-Wan Gai: Chicken roll green curry with baby eggplants and sweet basil; Phrik Khing (Bangkok-style crispy pork in sweet red pepper sauce); lobster smothered in rich ginger curry sauce (PHOTO: provided by Arun) and Pla Kratiam (stripe bass with roasted chili, garlic and shallot sauce).

Crafted cocktails include: Black Thai Affair (muddle blackberries and Thai basil, Lillet Blanc, Caorunn Gin, lemonade, topped with Prosecco, garnished with blackberry and Thai basil) $15 each. Mocktails (non alcoholic)include the Seasonal Virgin Sour (cucumber and watermelon puree, house-made sour mix, egg white, lavender and melon kombucha); $10 each. Reservations available.

Chef Saul Roman's prix fixe menu, paired with Malbec; $65 per person (plus tax and gratuity), features empanadas and eggplant bruschetta to start, followed by a NY strip steak cooked on an Argentine parilla served with homemade chimichurri, malbec sauce and mashed potatoes, and house made flan to finish. Each course will be paired with an Argentine Malbec selection, a full-bodied red with smokey, spicy notes and tannic structure.

Chef Saul Roman's prix fixe option are $25 per person. Entrees include: asado Argentino (traditional selection of flank steak, slow-grilled short ribs, morcilla and chorizo, served with homemade chimichurri, malbec sauce and hand-cut fried potatoes); para compartir (steak flight with cap of ribeye, NY strip and butterflied sirloin, served with homemade chimichurri, malbec sauce and hand-cut fried potatoes); asado de pollo (grilled Amish half chicken, flank steak, butterflied sirloin, served with homemade chimichurri, malbec sauce and hand-cut fried potatoes) and surf and turf (NY strip, flank steak, sirloin and the choice of grilled prawns, shrimp or fish of the day, served with homemade chimichurri, malbec sauce and hand-cut fried potatoes).

Complimentary introduction to Argentine tango dance lessons will be led by instructors Hernan Prieto and Daniela Roig at 7:30 p.m., followed by beginner tango lessons ($15 per person) at 8 p.m.
