City Winery's Chards of Glass salutes Philip Glass' 85th birthday

City Winery is offering Chards of Glass a special commemorative bottle of chardonnay in celebration of composer and pianist Philip Glass' 85th birthday. 

The aromatic bouquet includes top notes of brioche and vanilla beans filtered with honeysuckle and tropical fruits with a hint of honey pastries, before following up with notes of toasted bread, a 2019 vintage from Scopus Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain, California.

Iconic Chicago pizzeria Gullivers Pizza closed its doors January 16

Gullivers Pizza, 2727 W. Howard St., opened in 1965 offering a new kind of pizza that would be among the first to be hailed as Chicago-style.

A long-time favorite that launched Chicago-style pan pizza to in and out-of-town guests is also known for its unique decor that includes antiques. The pizzeria's last day of business was Sunday January 16.

City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph, launched a new house account program designed to reward holders with complimentary dining credit. 

In addition guests purchasing the house account through January 2022 will receive a bonus 10 per cent credit. 

Earned paid credit carries no expiration date and can be used at all City Winery properties. Bonus credit carries a three year expiration.

Cody's Public House is open for business

Cody’s Public House1658 W. Barry Ave., has reopened under a new ownership. The former neighborhood hot spot, was owned by Gene Frankowski, who named the bar for his dog. 

Frankowski closed the business in 2019, eventually selling the building to Red Door Tavern Group in September 2021, who promised to honor the bar’s legacy with tasteful restorations of and updated amenities.

Hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday-Friday; 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday; 11 a.m to 2 a.m. Sunday. Call: 773-799-8217.

Big Drop Brewing releases new item in its non-alcoholic line for "Dry January"

Big Drop Brewing salutes "Dry January" with the introduction of Coba Maya a new item its non-alcoholic beer line.

The Coba Maya, the fourth launch in line is a Mexican inspired brew balanced with malt punch, with a spicy herbal aroma.

The brewer is hosting Sample Saturdays at Great Central Brewing Company, 221 N. Woods St., noon to 9 p.m. January 15; 22 and 29.

Other events this month include: 

Big Drop brews with pizza from Aurelio’s Thursday, January 20, from 5-7 p.m. Beer Cellar, 204 W. State St., Geneva.

The Chicago French Market's updated COVID measures

The Chicago French Market, 131 N. Clinton,  has new COVID safety rules in place in accordance with the updated city ordinance that went into effect January 3.

In addition to installing Airphx air purifiers throughout the market and continuing to require face masks for all guests and staff, the following procedures are now in place.

Customers who are coming to the Market for a quick visit of ten minutes or less must wear masks, but they do not need to provide proof of vaccination.

Fully vaccinated guests  have several dine-in areas to choose from. The main dining area will be open between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. 

Bar Frietkoten, Blue Spot Sushi, Jian and A Taste of the Philippines have designated dining areas adjacent to their kiosks. In addition there is general seating adjacent to the information booth by the Clinton St. entrance. 

To expedite the guest experience an online ordering system with no third-party charges has been implemented. Guests are encouraged to pre-order for dine in, carry-out, curbside pickup or delivery. 

Curbside pickup for online orders is available Monday-Friday. As an additional support for businesses and lunch groups in the area, the Chicago French Market also offers several food catering options.

Proof of vaccination (ages five and older) and valid ID (ages sixteen and older) will be required in accordance with the new order.
