Long Grove's Irish Days Festival takes place this weekend


Long Grove's Irish Days Festival takes place August 31-September 2, in  town's historic district.

The family-friendly celebration of Irish Covers everything from food to culture. Along with the popular Irish dog competition and the men's kilt contest.

In addition musical entertain will take place with performances by The Tooles, Beamish, The Shannon Rovers Bagpipe Band, Trinity Irish Dancers and Academy of Irish Music (view complete lineup).

Irish food from vendors such as Celtic Pretzel and Harrington’s Catering and Deli will be offering that include: hand-made pretzels, hot corned beef sandwiches, fish and chips, and other traditional foods. In addition there will be a designated area selling freshly tapped Irish-themed beers and non-alcoholic drinks to quench all thirsts young or old. 

A “Wee Ones” area will host Irish-themed crafts and face-painting for kids, perhaps. A special offering takes place at the Gaelic Tent in Fountain Square that promotes awareness of the Irish language and genealogy. Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. August 31); 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. September 1)  and 11 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. (September 2).  Admission and parking is free.

Bottleneck properties to launch rock 'n roll brunch menu


Old Town Pour House, 1419 N. Wells, is launching a new rock 'n roll inspired brunch menu, available beginning August 31.
Items includes: Chak Shuka Khan (spicy tomato sauce, sunny side up eggs, goat cheese, and a toasted garlic baguette); Johnny Hash (braised short rib, bell pepper, onion, potato, jalapeño salsa verde and sunny side up eggs); Lox N’ Roll (whiskey house-cured salmon on flatbread with dill cream cheese, grape tomato, mozzarella cheese, red onion, capers, baby arugula, and citrus mustard vinaigrette) and the Clash Smash (smashed avocado on toasted challah with roasted corn, pickled red onion, shaved radish, and sliced hard-boiled egg) pictured.

Shareable dishes are also available and include: Jon Bun Jovi, (a warm jumbo cinnamon roll with vanilla icing) and Dock of the Beignets derived from Café du Monde’s famous recipe for French doughnuts served with chocolate hazelnut sauce and mixed berry jam for dipping). The brunch menu will be available at City Works Schaumburg beginning August 31 as well.

Great American Lobster Fest @Navy Pier


Great American Lobster Fest takes place August 30-September 1, AON Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier, 600 W. Grand.

In addition numerous lobster creations will be available for sampling. In addition guests can partake in the lobster hero all you can eat feast. contest. There will be two sessions daily 1 and 6 p.m. Tickets.

Replay's Park and Recreation popup opens August 30


Replay Lincoln Park, 2833 N. Sheffield Ave., transforms into the town of Pawnee, Indiana for a Parks and Recreation pop-up experience. 

 The pop-up will feature custom artwork, will include food items inspired by JJ's Diner and Sweetums as well as specialty cocktails such as Galentine’s Day, The Ron Swanson and Snake Juice

 and several fun photo opportunities at iconic Pawnee destinations including the Department of Parks and Recreation, Shoe Shine Stand, Li’l Sebastian’s Stable, Eagleton Fence, the Pit and the World’s Smallest Park,

The fun, which begins August 30, includes events such as the Harvest Festival, a Glitter Factory Breakfast Buffet, a Mouserat concert, trivia and bingo.

Mastro's Steakhouse, 520 N. Dearborn, is now offering Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company’s Single Barrel Bourbon, which has not been available for more than a century.

Mastro’s jas the distinction of being the the first restaurant in 102 years io serve a Peerless single barrel bourbon. The hand-selected single barrel Chocolate Oak barrel, which was given the name because of its notes of dark chocolate and spice. os made from sweet mash rather than sour, non-chilled filtration and is barreled at 107 proof and bottled as a barrel-strength whiskey. 

Peerless Chocolate Oak, exclusive to Mastro’s Steakhouse and Mastro’s Ocean Club locations nationwide, will be available as pours, flights and specialty cocktails.

The Albert, 228 E Ontario, celebrates the end of summer with a special “Great Lakes Garden Party on the Terrace” 7 p.m. August 27; $125.

Executive Chef Larry Feldmeier's dinner kicks off with passed canapes at 7 p.m. followed by a five-course dinner inspired by flavors from the Great Lakes region at 8 p.m.
