Heinz launches burger contest

Chicago-based Heinz, looking to deck out it's burger, has launched its first ever Head Burger Artist contest.

Participants will have t he opportunity to win $25,000 and—free condiments for life. Along with the opportunity to take taste-testing trips for the find the best burger in three spots to of choice anywhere in the United States including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. And as if that wasn't the ketchup on the burger  the winner will also have the opportunity to consult with the Heinz on the development of a future condiment at it's Chicago headquarters. Takito's Memorial Day salute

Takito Kitchen, carries its Sunday Funday brunch into Memorial Day featuring $15 bottomless mimosas or a choice of one of its 10 varieties of margaritas.

Brunch dishes include: chorizo omelets; chilaquiles and breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, queso fresco, seasonal vegetables and coffee braised beef. Reservations.

Bar Takito, will have items from its current brunch menu including: Arepa Benedict (pulled pork, roasted garlic puree and chipotle salsa); coconut shrimp tacos with mango habanero chutney and  avocado toast topped with arugula, cherry tomatoes and a sunnyside up egg. Reservations.

The J. Parker salutes veterans with its patriotic cocktail: Frosé

The J. Parker, Hotel Lincoln, 1816 N. Clark, honors veterans Memorial Day with special cocktail, "Frosé" (Proverb Rose, Dimmi liqueur, Pisco Vargas, garden cordial and lemon; $14), benefitting Honor Flight Network, an organization that honors veterans with all expenses paid  trips to visit the memorials in Washington D.C. ($1 from every cocktail sold will be donated to the organization). The drink is available through May 31.

Hours are: Monday-Thursday, 5 p.m.-11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. to Midnight; Sunday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Breakfast is served Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Call: 312-254-4747.

Azul shores up for Memorial Day service

Azul Mariscos, 1177 W. Elston Ave., will feature Patron margarita towers during its Memorial Day festivities.

Chef Michael Hernandez’ menu will feature items from his new seasonal that includes items such as grilled mahi mahi with pineapple habanero salsa and avocado as well as lobster, crab and shrimp tortas with (Chihuahua cheese, refried beans, guacamole, lettuce tomato and chipotle aioli) served on a grilled ciabatta bun. 

In addition guests can enjoy the view of the the Chicago River while dining.

Mac's Wood Grilled, 1801 W. Division St., does a bang up job saluting Memorial Day. Look for patriotic themed drinks such as American Mule (house vodka; ginger beer and lime juice; $5) and Berry Bombs (berry vodka and Red Bull; $6). Food items include marinated Portobello mushroom cap atop an Angus beef burger with mozzarella cheese and garlic aioli served with fries; $14. Specials available May 28-31. 

Mac's will host an All Elite Wrestling viewing party with drink specials beginning 7 p.m. May 30. First come first served basis. Ages 21 and over only. 

The bar will hold extended hours for the holiday weekend: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; Sunday; 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Memorial Day.

Rewired Pizza Cafe & Bar Memorial Day maneuvers kick off May 27

Rewired Pizza Cafe & Bar, 1100 W. Thorndale, kicks off its Memorial Day festivities beginning May 27 with happy hour specials 3-5 p.m. happy hours will also be held May 28 and 31 from 3-5 p.m. Deals include half-priced pizza, appetizers and draft beer. Live music will be featured 5-8 p.m. May 27.

The venue features a weekend brunch 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2 -30. The a la carte menu will feature the Rewired BELT sandwich (bacon, scrambled eggs, Swiss cheese, garlic basil mayo, tomato and mixed greens on a brioche with fries ($9); house made biscuits and chorizo gravy ($10) and chicken and waffles ($12).

Bartoli’s Pizzeria (Roscoe Village, 1955 W. Addison St. and West Town, 658 N. Ashland Ave.) is donating a portion of proceeds from sales over Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31) to Homes For Our Troops (HFOT).

The Community Economic and Development Association of Cook County's (CEDA) "Aged to Perfection," virtual wine tasting, saluting the organizations 55th year of service, takes place 6 p.m. June 10.

Maifest Chicago's cancellation for the second year has inspired Dank Haus German American Cultural Center, 4740 N. Western Ave., to host a Maifest fundraiser 6 p.m. June 5.

The event will feature an abundance of traditional German fare, catered by Himmels while the Paloma Band serves up entertainment. And of course beer and wine will be on hand.

The Macy's Drag first-ever brunch in it's iconic Walnut Room taking place June 12 was such a hit (tickets sold out within an hour) the Chicago retail mainstay is hosting another event July 24 at the flagship store's Walnut Room, 111 N. State St.

Hard Rock Cafe, 63 W. Ontario, is featuring a Louisiana-style all-you-can-eat crawfish boil, prepared by Louisiana chef Allen Rochelle, 12-6 p.m. May 22 on its patio; $35.
