Little Village's Taste of Mexico

Taste of Mexico takes place May 31-June 2 on 26th Street in Little Village. 

More than 20 neighborhood vendors will be in attendance. Featured food items include: tacos flautas; enchiladas; tortas and gorditos. 

In addition live music, arts and crafts center and carnival rides. Hours are 3-10 p.m. Friday; noon to 1 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Admission is free.

2019 Chicago Ale Fest in Grant Park

The Chicago Ale Fest returns on Saturday, June 1 to Butler Field in Grant Park, 400 E. Monroe. The fest will have one session with early entry and general admission, and will feature more than 200 craft beers, live music and some of Chicago’s favorite food trucks. Come to Chicago’s front lawn for one of the most anticipated summer craft beer events of the year.

As the most anticipated summer craft beer event of the year, Chicago Ale Fest offers a unique “festival within a festival” concept, bringing five mini-festival experiences inside the gates of Grant Park, including Cider Alley, Lager Lane, West vs. East Coast IPAs, and a mini-food truck fest. Slurping Turtle set to close it's Chicago operation

Slurping Turtle, 116 W. Hubbard, will close it's door at the end of the month. The original River North location opened at 114 W. Hubbard in 2011. The operation plans on doing expansion in other cities including a restaurant slated for Columbus, OH.

The Old Plank revisited

The Old Plank, 2700 N. Milwaukee, is now open under the direction of Executive Chef Jesus Castillo and Chef de Cuisine Juan Ramirez (Saba Italian Bar + Kitchen) along with Beverage Director Phillip Smith (The Walk-In).

The menu feature authentic Tex-Mex food including dry rub wings made with house made seasoning with a jalapeno ranch dressing (pictured). 

The drink menu includes agave and whiskey-focused cocktails; rotating frozen drinks, shots, and packaged beers selections. The  bar area also features 16 taps of local brews.

ROOF on theWit's, 201 N. State Street, Rosé Garden officially opens Memorial Day (May 27). 

The garden, which features shades of pink, white and red roses, will  serve a collection of exquisite rare rosé wines. 

A week-long event, "ROOF Rose Garden Tasting Experience begins May 24. Entry to the event includes glasses of an assortment of rare rosés, including Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Rosé 2008. The tasting experience will also include small bites from Executive Chef Nathan Sears and Executive Pastry Chef Toni Roberts. Tastings are limited to 25 tickets. Purchase

Dovetail and Begyle breweries partner for a Memorial Day jamboree

Dovetail Brewery and Begyle Brewing join forces for a spring celebration during the Third Annual Mayfestiversary May 25 during a Ravenswood block party, taking place near the Brown Line between W. Belle Plaine and W. Cuyler Ave.

More than a dozen locally brewed beers, varied cuisine from some of the finest food trucks in the city and live music will be part of the festivities.

Both brewer swill hold specials tapping exclusive to the event.  Saturday, Dovetail will tap its Maibock, a honey-toned beer brewed in January and then hibernated for 4 months. Begyle taps its Boat Shoes Kölsch-style beer on Sunday. Both tappings take place at  1:30 p.m. 

Also during the event Dovetail will host a series of short talks and guided tastings in the Barrel Loft lead by co-owners and Master Brewers Hagen Dost and Bill Wesselink and Advanced Cicerones Jenny Pfafflin and Shana Solarte. Talks are free and open to the public, and are open on a first-come, first-serve basis. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. May 25-26. The Herbal Chef Chris Sayegh partners with Chef Brian Jupiter of Frontier to hosts 7-course CBD-infused dinner, 7-10 p.m. May 20, Frontier, 1072 N. Milwaukee.

The menu, compiled of locally-sourced ingredients, complementing the spring season include: Sayegh's  famous Surf and Turf; and Wagyu beef, scallop and truffle. Chef Jupiter, a recent James Beard Semifinalist, will prepare three of the seven courses. The dinner will only be comprised of CBD-infused items due to Illinois ban on recreational cannabis.

The dinner spotlighted around CBD and feature elements of terpenes, is part of nationwide tour.

The 5th annual Chicago Wine Festival: Lincoln Park Wine Fest 2019 takes place May 17-19 in Jonquil Park, 1001 W. Wrightwood. 

More than 60 varieties will be available for tasting. Hours are 6-10 p.m. May 17; noon to 4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. May 18 and noon to 4 p.m. May 19. Admission ($40-$60) includes 12 tasting tickets. VIP and designated driver tickets are also available. Must be 21 and older with valid proof to attend.
