MAK: Modern Asian Kitchen, 1924 W. Division, salutes National Chicken Wing Day with 29-cent wings during its "Flappy Hour" special 5-7 p.m. July 29. The chicken "wangs," named for chef Tommy Wang, will be available with the purchase of wine, sake, beer or soda. 

The deep-fried wings are cooked in a sweet and spicy sauce available in medium, hot or non spicy. As a bonus the restaurant will feature half-priced wine and sake from 5-9 p.m. There is a 20-wing maximum per order.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, 5 Oakbrook Court, Oak Brook, launched new summer cocktails: Key Gin Gimlet (CH Key Gin shaken with fresh lime juice crafted with muddled basil and cucumber); Highland Highball (Glenmorangie 10-year Scotch is stirred with Grand Marnier, fresh pressed lemon juice and a hint of almond) and Perry’s Spicy Mango Tango shakes (Belvedere Mango Passion Vodka with mango, fresh pressed lime juice and a hint of habanero lime before topping it off with Chandon Brut Sparkling Wine). 

The restaurant has also introduced new non alcoholic signature shaken sodas: Mango Fizz, Pineapple Ginger Ale, and Habanero Margarita; $5.95 each (trio pictured).

Taste of River North returns


Taste of River North takes place July 21-23  at Kingsbury and Erle. New to the event this year is the Best of Taste competition, where event goers select their favorite vendor in several categories.

Participants in the year's event include: Big & Little's; Da Lobster; El Campeon; El Hefe; Hutch American Cafe; Motel bar; Pinstripes; Pranzi; Rut's Chris Steakhouse; SafeHouse Chicago; Sholado and the Lifeway Kefir Shop. All food and beverage  vendors.

In addition to the food vendors Hubbard Inn (10 p.m. to closing Friday-Saturday) and Joy District 8 p.m. to closing (July 23). are sponsoring the ToRN beer garden. 

A live music stage will feature Boy Band Review (8:30 p.m. July 21); Sixteen Candles (8 p.m. July 22) and the Heard (6 p.m. July 23). Complete lineup.

Other activities include the Lurie family and kids events, Echoes of Chicago art tent and morning workouts in the park hosted by the East Bank Club. 

Hours are: 5-10 p.m. July 21; noon to 10 p.m. July 22; 11 a.m. to  p.m. July 23. A $5 donation upon entering is suggested.

Field Museum's ancient brew


The Field Museum has partnered with Off Color Brewing to release a QingMing a limited edition beer, debuts during the museum's Hop to It event 6-8:30 p.m. July 13. The beer will be available on tap and in bottles at the Museum’s Field Bistro. Beginning July 14 will be at select retailers. 

The beer, a combination of traditional Asian brewing techniques with a taste profile of peaches and lemon rind with fragrant aromas of tea, bubblegum, and sake, was inspired by archeological findings from Taixi and a Changzikou tomb, dating back to the Shang/Western Zhou Dynasties circa 1600-722 BCE.

Tickets are $40; $35, for museum members. Open to ages 21 and older.

Roscoe Village Burger Fest, at Belmont and Damen, winds down tomorrow (July 9) with special guest Cracker, who will perform songs from his 25-year career including from his most recent album, "Berkeley to Bakersfield," on the Main Stage at 8:15 p.m. 

The Sunday music Main Stage lineup also includes: The Fat Cats (12:15 p.m.); The North 41; The Right Now (4 p.m.) and the Way Down Wanderers (6 p.m.)
