State and Lake Chicago Tavern's Oktoberfest salute

State and Lake Chicago Tavern, 201 N State, celebrates Oktoberfest by offering a selection of authentic German cuisine. 

Chef Nathan Sears specialty menu will feature items such as pork schnitzel with truffled apple puree, bacon fried potatoes, Banyuls roasted red cabbage, grapes and celery gremolat, sweet German pancake, aged cheddar soft pretzel with creamy apple mustard, Local Folks grainy mustard and Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese, crispy roasted schweinshaxe (pork shank) with Haus sauerkraut, dill pickles, roasted carrots with horseradish and herbs, and rye bread (serves two), and a Kaiserschmarrn (sweet German pancake) with Rum raisins, and whipped pistachio butter. German Märzen draft beers will also be on the menu. The special items will be available daily beginning 4 p.m. through October 8.

Lakeview East Wine and Sweets Stroll

The Third Annual Lakeview East Wine and Sweets Stroll takes place 3-6 p.m. September 30.

The event offers two routes and features the following stops:

Broadway stops include WineHouse, Blush Boutique, Maison Marcel, Pastoral, Vanille Patisserie, Best Western Hawthorne Terrace, CRAM Fashion, Unabridged Book Store, Coffee and Tea Exchange, Foursided, Windy City Sweets, Stan's Donuts and Advanced Spine & Sports Care.

Clark stops include Veggie Grill, The Colette Collection, Art De Triumph, Foursided, Stan's Donuts, Clark St. Dog, Wells Street Popcorn, Bark by The Park, 11 Degree North, Wow Bao, Bonus Round Game Cafe, TeaGschwendner and Off the Ground Dance Studio.


Tickets are $25, includes commemorative glass and two tickets to the Laugh Factory. Must be 21 and over.

Replay's South Park pop-up bar arrives September 28

Replay Lincoln Park, 2833 N. Sheffield, brings Colorado mountain town of South Park to Chicago with the launch of it's "South Park" themed pop-up bar beginning September 28-October 31. 

The bar will feature custom-made, interactive art, a bus stop character photo backdrop and life-size character cut-outs along with other surprises. Events include viewings of "South Park" episodes, Kyle, Stan, Eric and Kenny events, Smorgas-Wein tasting; cake tasting; "Sons of Witches" costume party, Coon and friends open mic comedy night; City Wok Chinese take-out night. The events comes to an end with the Satan’s Super Sweet 16 costume party on Halloween.

Pop-up Skeeters and Cocktail bar will feature themed cocktails such as Tweek Brother’s Coffee (bourbon, coffee liqueur, molasses, bitters and cold brew); KFC Gravy Mary (spiced vodka, chicken stock-infused tomato juice, KFC gravy and Worcestershire); Butters’ Creamy Goo (vanilla vodka, crème de cacao, Irish cream and soda); They Tequilla’d Kenny (tequila and frozen strawberry puree) and Spooky Ghost Ectoplasm Shots (amaretto, cream liqueur and whipped cream). A selection of Colorado beers will also be available.

The Bluegrass & Bloody Bog Boozy Brunch, a part of the Big Weekend music event October 4-6, takes place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 6, Frontier, 1072 N Milwaukee.

In addition to an array of brunch fare That includes: Steel Your Face Salted Caramel French toast, Friend of the Deviled Eggs, Disco Beignets, Up in Smoked Ham and Eggs Chimichurri. Entertainment includes a solo performance by Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon.  performs. Artango Bar & Steakhouse, 4767 N. Lincoln, hosts a steak and wine night tasting the last Wednesday of the month beginning September 26.

Chef Saul Roman will offer a three course prix fixe, paired with Malbec, for $65 per person (plus tax and gratuity). Featured items might include: empanadas and eggplant bruschetta to start, followed by a NY strip steak steak cooked  with homemade chimichurri, malbec sauce and mashed potatoes, and house made flan to finish. Each course is paired with an Argentine Malbec selection, a full-bodied red with smokey, spicy notes and unmistakable tannic structure. The Albert's new happy hour specials

The Albert, located in Hotel EMC2, 228 E Ontario, has a new happy hour menu available Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm. The menu features a variety of cocktails as well as driver-friendly “mocktails,” wines and light bites. 

Mocktails ($4 each, which can be converted to cocktails, $8) are:  Fireside (grapefruit juice, jalapeno and salt); Black Pearl (black tea with orange and lime juices); Lavender lemonade (lemon juice, soda water and lavender simple syrup), pictured and P&T (pomegranate juice, cucumber and tonic).

In addition $5 glasses of the Albert White, a 2016 Chardonnay from Central Valley, Chile and the Albert Red, a 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from Central Valley, Chile will be available. Food specials include: General Tso’s spiced nuts, marinated olives, pimento cheese with grilled sourdough and pickles: herb tossed fries with spicy ketchup and dijonnaise and housemade breads for $5.

Goose Island 312 Urban Block Party takes place September 21-22, Goose Island Fulton St. Brewery (entrance at Fulton and Wolcott). All beer will be priced $3. Food trucks will be on site as well.

Live entertainment includes September 21: TV on the Radio; Sunflower Bean; Mick Jenkins, September 22 acts include:  Drive by Truckers; The Hold Steady and Lillie Mae. Hours are 5-10 p.m. September 21; 4-10 p.m. September 22. A $10 donation at the gate is suggested. Donations will be made to several local charities.

Pop-up Breakfast at Tiffany's event @Chop Shop

Calliope Presents and Chop Shop Chicago hosts Loft Golightly: A Breakfast at Tiffany's Pop-Up event, 8 p.m. September 22, Chop Shop, 2033 W. North. Guests will be feted to a themed event based on the pop culture character from Truman Capote's book, Breakfast at Tiffany's, which was adapted to a movie starring Audrey Hepburn in the iconic role of Holly Golightly. 

The event will feature characters from the movie, music from the 50-60s, items replicated from scenes in the movie and a Dj playing period movie, which will most likely include Henry Mancini/Johnny Mercer Oscar and Grammy Award-winning theme song, "Moon River." 

Guests are encouraged to come in dressed in 50-60s attire. Admission is free and based on a first come, first serve. Cash bar.

Caffé Umbria tips its cup to National Coffee Day

Caffé Umbria, Logan Square ( 2545 W. Armitage) and River North (346 N. Clark) locations, salute National Coffee Day (September 29) by donating 10-percent of the day's proceeds to Salt and Light Coalition, a Chicago-based organization dedicated to empowering female survivors of trafficking  to find freedom through faith, self-care practices and job training. 

In addition the coffee boutique launched two fall flavors September 15, Caffé al Pepe (a honey pepper latte with a mix of honey, black pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg handcrafted with espresso and topped with steamed milk (8-ounce for $4.25; 12-ounce for $4.50; and 16-ounce for $4.75) and the Blood Orange Espresso Soda (Blood Orange San Pellegrino soda, double ristretto espresso and Monin vanilla syrup, poured over ice in a mason jar and garnished with a lemon wedge ($4.25).
