Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya's Noodle Day Giveaway

In celebration of National Noodle Day Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya, 1482 N. Milwaukee, the restaurant (dinner only) beginning 5 p.m. October 6, will give 100 guests, on a first come, first served basis, a complimentary bowl of its signature Tokyo Shoyu Ramen.

The traditional Tokyo-style ramen, regularly $9, is made with a light chicken and pork broth fused with Kizuki's house made roasted oil and soy sauce seasoning, creating a slightly sweet yet savory taste with thin "Chuka" noodles, topped with a slice of pork chashu (roasted, marinated, and then grilled), bamboo shoots, Chinese greens, garnished with chopped green onions with red chili flakes and a slice of seaweed.

Chicago Bacon and Beer Classic 2016

Tickets are still available for thBacon and Beer Classic 2016 taking place noon to 3 p.m. October 1 with a 3 hour break before the second session 6-9 p.m. gets underway at Soldier Field, 1410 S. Hard Rock Cafe's Limited-Time Veggie Menu

October is Vegetarian Awareness Month and Hard Rock Cafe, 63 W. Ontario, salutes the month with a special vegetarian menu available beginning October 3 through November 13. 
Additions to the menu include vegetarian dishes and plant-based drinks. Dishes include the cauliflower burger (house-made patty of cauliflower, garlic, egg, goat cheese, oregano and breadcrumbs, topped with zucchini, squash, Monterey Jack cheese,  arugula, tomato and garlic aioli; grilled ratatouille wrap (grilled ratatouille vegetables topped with sriracha mayonnaise, olive oil and baby arugula, served in a seasoned grilled flour tortilla with a side salad, on a toasted brioche bun); fennel, beet and orange salad (roasted beets, crisp fennel, fresh orange, mint, cilantro and spring greens tossed in a garlic, lime and cumin vinaigrette) and cauliflower wings (crispy Buffalo-style cauliflower served with bleu cheese, celery and carrot sticks.

Featured drinks are the Very Veggie Tini (fresh cucumber, red onion, mint and lime juice shaken with Greek yogurt and Tito’s Handmade Vodka) and Wascally Wabbit, alcohol free (a mix of carrot juice, apple juice, orange juice, ginger and orgeat and garnished with a large mint sprig).

Columbus Tap Launches Inaugural Brewers Series



Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park, 200 North Columbus Drive, hosts its first-ever Brewers’ Dinner Series at Columbus Tap, 6:30 p.m. September 28.

The very exclusive 12-seat event features a four-course menu prepared by Executive Sous Chef Atticus Garan paired with brews from Evanston-based Temperance Beer Company. Claudia Jendron, brewmaster from from Temperance, walks guests through each course and paired beer selection.

Corporate Chef Todd Stein is at the helm 4 Star Restaurant Group's 10th concept restaurant, Tuco and Blondie, 3358 N. Southport, opens September 26.

The Mexican-American style cantina, inspired by the Clint Eastwood's iconic pop culture movie  "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," is a  250-seat dinning spot offering dishes such as the Chile con Queso “Bob Armstrong,” with creamy melted cheese, ground beef, guacamole and sour cream ($9); Crab Tostada with a crispy corn tortilla, jump lump crab, avocado and pickled fresno chile ($12); Tuco’s Famous Fajitas (options include chicken, steak, shrimp and more) served with rice and beans, guacamole, roasted onions, peppers and housemade flour tortillas ($14-21). 

Taco platter options include Chili Braised Short Rib with cabbage and pickled red onion ($16); the Al Pastor, made with marinated and grilled pork and roasted pineapple ($14); and Chicken Tinga, slow cooked chicken and a chipotle and onion sauce ($14).

Dovetail Brewery, 1800 W. Belle Plaine, implementing traditional brewing methods to create authentic continental European style beers, initiates a German Sunday morning beer drinking tradition to Chicago, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. September 25. 

This German custom, known as Frühschoppen, is a weekly gathering of friends who come together at a pub or tavern Sunday to enjoy a late morning beer. Joining in the event is Sausage König who brings Blaue Zipfel, a traditional Franconian dish of Nürnberger sausages and onions, to the table. 

Guests can purchase 1/3 liters ($5) or 1/2 liters ($7) of Dovetail's four signature beers on tap, Lager, Hefeweizen, Rauchweizen, and Grodziskie.

Mercadito Chicago, 108 W. Kinzie,  is celebrating Mexican Independence Day and National Guacamole Day (September 16) with a special prix fixe dinner. The menu ($35) includes a choice of one of three types of guacamole, two dishes of ceviches or botanas, four tacos, one side, one dessert and one specialty tequila cocktail.

First, select your guacamole: tradicional, ramps, mango, beets, toreado or pancita. Choose two ceviches (lobster, camarón, mixto or dorado) or botanas (flautas, queso fundido, corn masa quesadillas or rock shrimp w/ chipotle). Four tacos: espada, estilo Baja, camarón, carne, pollo, carnitas de Puerco, red snapper, pork belly, pastor and hongos. Tribes Beer Company, one of Chicagoland’s premiere craft beer bars and brewery hosts Oyster Fest September 15-17 at its Tinley location, 9501 W. 171st Street.

Owner Niall Freyne, born in Galway, Ireland, home of the world's oldest oyster fest, the Galway Oyster & Seafood Festival, brings the tradition to his adopted home, flying in oysters from the east and west coasts daily to ensure guests are served the freshest cold-water oysters, priced between $2.75 -3.75 a piece depending on the variety. Oysters are available ala carte (no minimum or maximum) orders are zip-lined to be shucked on the spot by the Tribes crew. Homemade cocktail sauce and homemade mignonette sauce will be served with every order.

Roscoe Village's Shock Top Oyster Fest, in its 18th year, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. September 10 at Roscoe and Damen. 

The annual post-Labor Day event signals the unofficial start of autumn. Tents housing fresh seafood as well as other culinary delights from local restaurants are a highlight of the festival. That, along with an eclectic music lineup (past performers include The Human League; Alien Ant Farm; Scotland Yard Gospel Choir and Men at Work along with several top Irish music acts. A $7 donation at the gate is suggested.
