KorFusion's make-your own-menu concept



KorFusion, 1234 N. Halsted, a fusion of  traditional family recipes from Korea influenced by American and other cultural cuisines. 

The design-your-own-menu features bao tacos, mandu (pot stickers), burritos, tacos, rice bowls, bibimbap, kimchi fried rice and jap chae (traditional Korean glass noodles). Dining guests may enjoy a unique taste of Seoul by customizing their meal through the selection of proteins, carbs, cold and hot vegetables and sauces. The restaurant also offers a bevy of non-alcoholic beverages including aloe vera water and Korean cream soda.

Forbidden Root's military salute


In honor of Memorial Day (May 29) Forbidden Root1746 W. Chicago, will donate $1 every glass of beer sold to the Semper Fi Fund, which provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities. 

In addition, all profits from the sale of non-consumable merchandise (growlers, t-shirts, etc.) will also be donated. Forbidden Root we’ll be open noon to 10 p.m. (kitchen closes at 8 p.m.).

Danny Wimmer Presents is throwing the official Chicago Open Kickoff dinner, 7 p.m. July 13, a Kuma’s West Loop, 852 W. Fulton Market; $50. 

The featured item is the  COA burger (10 oz beef patty, raspberry jalapeno jam, cheddar cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, crispy potato strings, deep fried chorizo topped with cream cheese stuffed breaded jalapeno). Appetizers and a complimentary drink included in price.

The Taste of Chicago's lineup for the 2017 Celebrity Chef du Jour lineup is: Chef Paul Fehribach, Big Jones (6:30 p.m. July 5); Chef Chico Vilchez, Nacional 27, (6:30 p.m. July 6); Chef Oliver Poilevey in a tribute to Jean Claude Poilevey, Le Bouchon La Sardine (6:30 p.m. July 7); American Girl Brunch (11:30 a.m. July 8) and Beverly Kim and John Clark, Parachute (5 p.m. July 9).

Ticket holders will enjoy a three-course sit-dow meal in an air conditioned dining pavilion. Tickets for each dinner is $45. The American Girl brunch is $30, with a four-ticket limit. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. May 24. Purchase here.

Roof at theWit kicks off its JetSet Series Memorial Day weekend


Roof at theWit, 201 N. State, launches JetSet Series, a new weekend dining experience inspired by the Mediterranean, beginning May 26-25 with food and drinks celebrating the cuisine of Barcelona, Spain. 

Dishes include: chicken and chorizo paella and Spanish fried egg. Cocktail special is the Spanish Mistress (rum, chili peppers and passionfruit). 

Upcoming events include: Costa del Sol, Spain (July 7-8) and Lisbon, Portugal (September 1-2).

Colectivo Coffee comes to Lincoln Park



Colectivo, a small-batch hand-roasted coffee shop founded in Milwaukee over two decades ago, crosses the border opening it's first Chicago shop May 22 at 2530 N. Clark in Lincoln Park. In addition to coffee, the shop will serve up small-batch craft beers (some coffee inspired) and from-scratch bakery.

Jerry's in Lincoln Square, 4739N. Lincoln, has unveiled a new ice cream sandwich menu. The frozen novelty sandwiches, which features Scooter's frozen custard piled between house baked cookies, are available in eight flavors eight: sugar cookie with Nutella custard; chocolate chip cookie with Nutella custard; toffee crunch cookie with Nutella custard; chocolate chip cookie with vanilla custard, sugar cookie with black raspberry custard, chocolate chip with black raspberry custard and white chocolate chip with black raspberry custard. The ice cream sandwiches are $4.50 each.

Chicago Riverwalk official 2017 season opening

Chicago Riverwalk officially opens for the summer with day-long festivities 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 20. Riverwalk food events include discounted gelato from Frost Gelato (27 W. Riverwalk South pictured), live music by the Shannon River Irish Pipe Band at O'Brien's (45 E. Riverwalk South); Todd Donnelly performs noon to 4 p.m. and Corey Bless 4-8 p.m. at Island Party Hut Tiki Bar (355 E. Riverwalk South) and City Winery (11 Chicago Riverwalk) will be featuring live entertainment by Lucky Dutch and DJ Jevon Jackson.

Dovetail Brewery, 1800 W. Belle Plaine,  gets CCBW festivities underway during the Beer Under Glass, official Chicago Craft Beer Week kick off, 5:30-9:30 p.m. May 18 at Garfield Park Conservatory. Purchase tickets

On May 23: the brewer partners 5-11 p.m. with Roots Pizza (1924 W. Chicago); and engages in a tap takeover with Lake Effect beginning at 5 p.m. JP Burkes Patio & Tap (2913 N. Lincoln). 

Dovetail wraps up the week May 24 with a Brown Line Brews 6 p.m. event at The Longroom (1612 W. Irving) and the Newbies and Freshies by Bitter Pops 6-10 p.m. (3345 N. Lincoln).

The platter, which feeds two includes 10 meats: Carolina pulled pork; smoked all-white turkey breast; hand-pulled chicken; dry rubbed spicy wings; traditional Texas spicy sausage; Memphis dry rubbed wings; brisket burnt ends; Texas chopped brisket and Memphis baby back ribs. Easy Bar taps into Craft Beer Week


Easy Bar, 1944 W. Division, kicks off Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 18-27) with carny party spotlighting New Belgium brews beginning 6:30 p.m. May 21. Featured beers, ($6.50-8) included: French Oak Aged Saison, Juicy Watermelon, and Voodoo 8-Hop Ranger Pale Ale. Party events include a blind beer tasting, giant Connect Four game and jumbo Jenga.

Clark, host Beer Without Borders, a benefit beer dinner, featuring selections from Bridgeport's Marz Community Brewing, Centro Romero  and Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and AICIRR, 6 p.m. May 24 ($100) as part of its Craft Beer Week salute. The event is in support of Chicago's immigrant communities with all proceeds benefitting Centro Romero and Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR).
