Columbus Tap's Weekend Brunch

Columbus Tap, located inside the Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park at 200 N. Columbus Drive, is now serving Saturday and Sunday brunch 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For the occasion Chef Atticus Garant is creating a lineup of specialty dishes that includes: The Orchard (ultra-fluffy pancakes topped with bourbon preserved peaches, and cinnamon roasted apples and pears); Eggs & Bacon (scrambled egg with maple pork belly, smashed fingerlings and blistered tomatoes); Grilled Madame (grilled cheese sandwich with sunny-up eggs, field greens and tomato jam) and smoked salmon & avocado toast, served with soft boiled egg, PQB sourdough, whipped ricotta and fresh herbs.

The brunch morning after program includes: the Rim (Old Bay, celery salt or kosher salt & cracked black pepper); The Spirit (Tito’s vodka, Letherbee gin, and Basil Hayden bourbon or Cabeza tequila);  The Base (house bloody Mary mix, Clamato or V-8, and The Garnish (candied bacon, spicy dill pickle and smoked olives). Cashing on on its rich beer history the tap room is offering the Krankshaft Kölsch as the official brunch beer.

NaKorn Offers Complimentary "#FlyTheW," Dessert

When NaKorn Kitchen, 1622 Orrington, Evanston, planned its grand opening for October 28 the owners couldn't have imagined it would be opening the same day the Cubs would hosts their first home game in the World Series, but they did and the restaurant has rescheduled its grand opening to November 4. In the mean time the restaurant is showing its Cubs spirit by offering a complimentary dessert, "#FlyTheW," to fans donning Cubs wear during the home games.

Smoke Show Fires up the Pits for Cubs Watching

Chicago is Myron Mixon's kind of town, selecting the city as the spot to open his first restaurant, even more fortuitously in Cubs territory at 3801 N. Clark. The famed pitmaster, who opened his restaurant's doors last week, is offering an all-you-can-eat barbecue menu during the Cubs home stretch October 28-30 beginning at 5 p.m and extended one hour after each game. The special menu features ribs, pulled pork, brisket, Myron's world famous cupcake chicken, smoked sausage, pig wings, baby back mac, hush puppies, potato salad and baked beans for $50 per person (plus tax and gratuity). The venue, which has 24, 60-inch 4K televisions, will have all tuned into the game. Table reservations (required) please call the restaurant at 773-360-1452.

Q-BBQ, celebrates the Chicago Cubs NLCS victory with smoked goat sandwiches at their pop-up restaurant in Willis Tower, 233 W. Wacker, October 25. The pop-up shop is featuring a hickory smoked goat sandwich, rubbed with their thirteen spice blend, smoked over hickory and applewood logs for eight hours. Executive Chef Carlos Ysaguirre of Tesori Trattoria and Bar, 65 E. Adams, has crafted a new fall, featuring a selection of antipastas (pictured); house made pastas, available in two portion sizes, including: bolognese lasagne; smoked beef brisket ravioli; tagliatelle with roasted wild mushrooms; pappardelle with lamb ragu; red and white Neapolitan-style pizzas that include: margherita; prosciutto; 
ssels sprouts; house made duck sausage. Main dishes of pan-roasted salmon; charred Berkshire pork ribs; duck breast saltimbocca and crispy Amish chicken thighs can also be found on the menu.  Gluten-free and vegetarian dishes are as well.

Omni Parker House's Boston Cream Pie for $6.76

Omni Chicago Hotel, 676 Restaurant and Bar, located in the Omni Chicago Hotel, 676 N. Michigan, will offer slices of the brand's famous Omni Parker House's Boston Cream Pie for $6.76, will be available October 22-23 only. Proceeds will benefit the Greater Chicago Depository. The recipe, created in 1850s at the original Omni Parker House in Boston by chef M. Sanzian, is a  two-layer golden cake filled with sweet pastry cream and frosted with chocolate glaze is conisidered the official dessert of Massachusetts.

Myron Mixon Opens Up Shop in Chicago

Myron Mixon, one of the most familiar faces on the barbecue trail, also known as the “winningest man in barbecue” has selected Chicago to open his first-ever restaurant Myron Mixon's Smoke Show Barbecue, 3801 N. Clark, in the heart of Wrigleyville. The opening is 4 p.m. October 20.

Unlike many of his contemporaries who believe low and slow is the best way to cook barbecue Mixon chooses a hot and fast method. His glass enclosed pit room featuring three Myron Mixon H20 smokers. Each unit has the capability to smoke 800 pounds at a time, allowing the restaurant to water smoke 2400 pounds (whole hog, chicken, pork shoulder, brisket) at one time. 

Menu items include: Myron’s Favorites (baby back mac; pig wings; ribs; burnt ends; world famous cupcake chicken; BBQ deviled eggs; King's specialty burnt ends), The King’s Feast (slab of ribs, two half chickens, one pound pulled pork, one pound brisket, four cupcake chicken, four egg rolls, hush puppies and coleslaw), salads (smoked chicken cobb; BLT wedge), hot and cold sides (loaded baked potato salad; Mama’s cole slaw; Grandma Mixon’s dill pickles; smoky collard greens; BBQ Georgia peach baked beans; Cajun corn) and family recipe desserts (banana pudding; peach cobbler; bread pudding; Georgia pecan pie).

The bar program offers seasonal beers with 16 on tap and 20 by the bottle, wine, cocktails and spirits. Signature drinks include: The Myron Mixon (Skyy vodka, Wild Turkey 81 bourbon, cinnamon, clove, simple syrup, lemon juice, nutmeg and honey) and the David Mixon’s Bloody Mary (Tito’s vodka, Zing Zang bloody mary mix, celery, pickle, cocktail onion, jalapeno pepper slice, smoked bacon, two burnt ends, sausage slice, rimmed with Rub A Dub Dub Rib Rub).

The Arts of Life Annual Chili Cook-Off

Got a hot chili recipe, literally of figuratively? "The Arts of Life 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off," 5-8 p.m. November 5, The Arts of Life, 2010 W. Carroll, is still accepting competitors. A round of celebrities: actor David Eigenberg of NBC’s "Chicago Fire,"(pictured), chef Doug Sohn of Hot Doug's fame, and roller derby star Val Capone of the Chicago Red Hots, will be judging the chili throw down. Ji Suk Yi, from ABC7's "Windy City LIVE" serves as emcee.  
Non-participating guests will be feted to all the chili they can eat, beer from Lagunitas Brewing Company, a gelato from Black Dog Gelato, and a chance to win raffle prizes. The Arts of Life Band and Chrash perform live. Guests are also invited to browse a special exhibition of Arts of Life artwork.
The cost to enter the cook-off is $25 (covers team of 2). Online general admission is $20; $25, at the door. Purchase tickets. All proceeds go directly to supporting The Arts of Life, which is celebrating sixteen years of empowering people to create an amazing artistic and personal vision for their community.

Ampersand Wine Bar Pop Up Brunch

Ampersand Wine Bar Chef/Owner Darren McGraw and Executive Chef Tim Havidic (pictured) pop up 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. October 16 at Sidecar at The Long Room, 1612 W Irving Park, for a special guest chef indoor brunch a la truck-service style.

Chef McGraw hope to roll out a brunch menu soon and will use the opportunity to preview some of the dishes that include: hot smoked salmon with charred cippolini onions, poached eggs and béarnaise sauce ($13); braised beef cheek hash with roasted pepper crème fraiche, onion jam and scrambled eggs ($13); and semolina grits with arugula salad, marinated tomatoes and fried eggs ($10). 

Drinks will be provided by The Long Room. Patrons may opt for a “café cocktail” such as the The Nitty Gritty, with Laird’s Apple Jack, Fernet Branca, cold brew, simple syrup and stout ($9) or a freshly prepared cocktail from the bar.
