Nonnina's minestrone soup returns


Nonnina, 340 N. Clark, serves up fall classics that includes Chef Tony Priolo's minestrone soup (fresh vegetables, including fall squash, simmered in homemade veggie broth with cannellini beans and ditalini pasta; $7). 

The dish, proven a crowd pleaser, pairs perfectly with the restaurant's Isabella cocktail High West Rye whiskey; zucca; Rabarbaro amaro and ginger liqueur; $12).

Morton's the Steakhouse's ultimate tailgating contest


This fall, Morton’s The Steakhouse, participating locations, his holding a football fan's dream contest, “Ultimate Tailgating Experience” giveaway. 

Customers must submit a photo or video of their most extravagant spread at a tailgate for a chance to win. First place winner receives four football tickets to any college or professional home game nationwide paired with a gourmet tailgate catered exclusively by Morton’s. 

The Ultimate Tailgating Experience menu includes choice of pulled pork sliders, filet mignon sandwiches or and steakhouse chili.

In addition Morton’s crowd-favorites such as blue cheese dip and chips, bacon deviled eggs, a cheese plate with crackers and Chinese chicken salad. Desserts include Morton’s Classic cheesecake and Key lime pie.

Second place winner receives a $500 Morton’s gift card and third place will receive a Morton’s football gift basket curated towards the winner’s favorite football team complete with gourmet treats.

The Chicago Cubs hosts a HBCU football classic event


The Chicago Cubs in association with the 22nd Annual Chicago Football Classic, featuring Hampton University and Howard University, hosts HBCU Day at Wrigley Field Friday, September 13.
Events kick off at noon with pre-game kick as well as a A post-game party, which includes a food buffet,  takes place 5-8 p.m. at Budwiser Brickhouse Tavern, 3647 N. Clark.
The Cubs vs. the Pirates at 3:05 p.m.  HBCU Day tickets start at $19. Tickets.
The football classic featuring the Hampton Pirates vs the Howard Bisons kicks off 3:30 p.m. September 14 at Soldier Field, 1410 S. Museum Campus. Purchase tickets at the locations listed. Or, at Ticketmaster.

Club 77 now open for dinner


Club 77, 77 W. Wacker, is now open for dinner. 

The menu, created by Executive Chef Patrick Sheerin, was inspired by the history and global influence from Chicago neighborhoods. 

Entrees include: seared snapper, kohlrabi som tum tomatillo sauce vierge ($25); roasted eggplant; cauliflower risotto, blackberry soy glaze ($18); Wagyu sirloin; roasted peppers; giardiniera, red wine sauce ($35) and Guajillo braised pork shoulder, corn and mesa polenta; roasted peach bbq sauce ($26) and burger with aged cheddar cheese, on brioche bun with caramelized truffle aioli ($15).

Beverage Manager Ryan Bono’s cocktail menu salutes the Windy City with Chicago inspired libations such as Pulitzer Riot (gin junipere, yuzu sake, pineapple, passion fruit syrup and lemon ($16). Reservations available at: 312-929-3205.

Tuscany Wheeling's Rosh Hashanah dinner special


Tuscany, 550 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, serves up a special three-course, prix-fixe Rosh Hashanah menu, available September 29-30; $40 adults; $20, ages under 10. Price includes coffee, tea or soda. Tax and gratuity not included.

Chef Bolla Loza's menu includes a choice of appetizer (challah with apples and honey; homemade chopped liver or chicken broth with matzo ball; entree choice, which includes a side of fresh green beans in garlic and olive oil, sweet  or mashed potatoes are: (oven-roasted brisket of beef; roasted half chicken or wild Atlantic salmon piccata). Joy District, 112 W. Hubbard, hosts the third installment of  its monthly “District Divas Drag" brunch buffet noon to 3 p.m. September 21; $50.

Sepia hosts special dinner with Michelin Star guest chef Ron Siegel


Michelin star chef Andrew Zimmerman (pictured: top) of Sepia, 123 N. Jefferson, welcomes fellow Michelin Star chef Ron Siegel of Madcap (pictured: bottom), located in the San Francisco Bay area, for co-hosted dinner beginning 6:30 p.m. September 18; $195.

The evening begins with a cocktail reception followed by a seated dinner at 7:30 p.m. The chefs will prepare a six-course dinner featuring signature items from their restaurants along with collaborative surprises. Tickets.

Taco E, 750 W. 33rd St., is now open. The new eatery from husband and wife team Omar Solis and Audri Simonelli-Solis, opened the carryout, delivery and catering side of the restaurant September 4. 

The second phase, casual-style seated-restaurant is slated to open next summer.

Timothy O'Toole's Swerski's Bears superfan pop-up bar opens September 5


Timothy O'Toole's Pub, 622 N. Fairbanks Ct., Swerski's, a pop-up bar for Bears' super fans, opens 2 p.m. September 5.

If you can't make it to the game the place to experience all things Bears is at the O'Toole's pop up bar, which pays homage to the "Saturday Night Live" skit that introduced Da Bears barfly super fan, Bob Swerski. 

Themed food and cocktails will take center stage of the replicated bar from the "SNL" segment, which featured George Wendt as the barfly super fan, will be around for a limited for the NFL opening season, which kicks off 7:30 p.m. September 5 with the Bears vs. Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
