Metropolitan Brewing, 3057 N. Rockwell St., celebrating with Maplewood and Ravinia Brewers, hosts an Oktoberfest event, 11 a.m. September 23. 

The event features a stellar lineup of brews that include: Afterburner Oktoberfest (fresh ginger root; allspice; clove; cinnamon and nutmeg); Morning Afterburner (Metropolis coffee cold brewed by Kyoto Black); Microvolt Larger dry hop with (Citra and Huell melon hops) and Krankshaft Kölsch dry-hopped with Mandarina Bavaria and Hallertau Blanc hops).

Hours for the event are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Popular brunch spot Wake 'n Bacon, 420 W. Belmont Ave, is now open for dinner on weekends. Chef William Silas' new dinner menu features dishes such as: Bombazo Pambazo (Mexican Style sandwich with chorizo, potatoes, avocado, $16); Abso-Luis Delish Tacos (house-made skirt steak topped with onion, cilantro; and salsa verde served in corn tortillas; $16); South by SouthEast Ribs (house-smoked ribs with ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil and gojuchang, $18, half; $28, full order); Sweet salmon couscous (Asian-style & tangy glazed salmon on bed of citrus herbed couscous, $22) and the Wake 'n Bacon Burger (all beef patty; Pepper Jack cheese; caramelized onions; chipotle mayo; mustard pickles and house-made bacon jam on a brioche bun, $17).

Four Entertainment Group Chicago operations hosts a Maui Relief fundraiser, September 7. Participating venues include: aliveOne, 2683 N. Halsted St. (Lincoln Park); Central Park Bar,  2924 N. Central Park Ave. (Avondale); Easy Bar (1944 N. Division St. and Estelle's, 2013 W. North Ave. (Wicker Park); Remedy, 1910 N. Milwaukee Ave. (Bucktown) and The Owl2521 N Milwaukee Ave. (Logan Square).

The 32nd annual Long Grove Apple Fest takes place September 22-24 in Downtown, 145 Old McHenry Rd.


The apple-centric event offers dozens of apple products that includes everything from apple centric items such as: chocolate caramel apples, candy covered apples, hard apple ciders, apple popcorn, spiced apple lattes, apple tempura, green apple cotton candy, apple crisps, apple goat cheese dumplings, apple cheesecake, apple pie, cinnamon apple ice cream, apple sugar cookie, and more.


Apple themed activities include: apple pie-eating contests; apple bobbing contest, and crafts. A kid's entertainment stage and classic carnival rides and games will also be available.


Live music includes: 


September 22: The Shape shifters (noon); Sam Fazio Trio (2:30 p.m.); Lara Bell Band (4:30 p.m.); South of Disorder (6:30 p.m.);  Mr. Blotto (9 p.m.).  


September 23: School of Old Rock Arlington (noon); Kevin Mileski Band (1:30 p.m.); Southwater (3 p.m.); Deadfest Band (5 p.m.); Ultrabeat (7 p.m. ); 7th Heaven (9 p.m). 


September 24: School of Rock Barrington (noon); Renegade Wildflower (1:30 p.m.); Made in America, Toby Keith Tribute (4 p.m. ). 


A kiddie entertainment stage will be . As always, there will also be a dedicated classic carnival with thrill rides and games too. The biggest draw at Apple Fest is typically the live music playing continuously on multiple stages spread out throughout town. From local up-and-coming artists to Chicago’s most well-known festival bands, Apple Fest has it all (check the website for the schedule). 


Tickets are $5 or $10, three day pass. Hours: noon to 11 p.m.; 10 a.m. 11 p.m. More details.

The 36th Annual Lincoln Square Apple Fest gets underway 9 a.m. October 1 on Lincoln Ave. between Lawrence Ave. and Sunnyside St. 

Vendors include: Avrom Farm's Chicken and Waffles, Bake Cheese Haus; Bell Heir's BBQ; Dimo's Pizza, Hello Jasmine, Mi Fogata; The Pony Inn and Yum Dub Food Truck.

Chef/owner Chesaree Rollins of CheSa’s Bistro & Bar, 3235 W. Addison St.  re-opens for business September 2 and is featuring a new Creole/Cajun brunch menu 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Brunch will be available every Saturday and Sunday as the restaurant transitions back to opening for dinner service.
