Moody Tongues' Valentine's Day Treat

Moody Tongue Brewing Company, 2136 S. Peoria, a culinary-centric brewery, holds a Valentine's beer and cake pairing class, 4 p.m. February 12 in its Tasting Room; $50. 

Brewmaster Jared Rouben and Pastry Chef Shannon Morrison, hosts the interactive beers and dessert pairing session. The two will instruct guests on how to match dessert and beer selections that complement one another, including a pairing for their German chocolate cake, taking guests through each layer, which includes:  rich yet light espresso speckled cheesecake, the chocolate buttercream frosting and a chocolate cereal crust. Cantina Laredo, 508 N. State, launched two new Latin libations for the winter season. The  Smoky Margarita (Los Amantes Joven Mezcal, 1800 Reposado Tequila, lime juice, served in a Himalayan salt-rimmed glass) and Oaxacan Old Fashioned (Del Maguey VIDA Mezcal, 1800 AƱejo Tequila, Monin organic agave nectar, Angostura bitters served over a Luxardo cherry-orange ice cube), priced $12 each.

Kit Kat Lounge's "The Bodyguard" Brunch

Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club, 3700 N. Halsted, hosts a Bodyguard brunch in salute to the new Broadway in hHicago musical, "The Bodyguard the Musical," 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. January 29, starring Deborah Cox. The featured the drink of the day, Queen of the Night (Stoli Razberi, Champagne, Pama and Fleur Elderflower liqueur; $7) is based on a song from the show.

Chef JoAnn Witherell’s brunch menu includes chicken and waffles, Rice Krispie french toast, crab cake Benedict, and chilaquiles . In additon, with the purchase of any brunch entree, a cocktail package (bloody Marys; mimosas; sangria; bellinis) can be added for $14.95 per person.

Tavern on Little Fort, 4128 N. Lincoln, opens at 4 p.m. Inauguration Day (January 20) for the Inaugural coverage and parade. For the occasion the bar will feature $6 Moscow Mules.


The bar salutes outgoing President Obama with $4 Chicago craft beers including Goose Island’s Green Line and 312 bottles.

Fountainhead, 1970 W. Montrose, 2017 Brewer of the Month series kick off  with "Maplewood Brews and Boilermaker Night," 6-11 p.m. January 18.

The event is a launch party for Maplewood Brewery and Distillery's new Maplewood Spirits division, and focuses on the brand's gin, rye and stout malt products. During the event beers will be $5; boilermakers, $10.

Devon Seafood on Board During Chicago Restaurant Week

Devon Seafood, 39 E. Chicago, joins in Chicago Restaurant Week (January 27-February 9), with two three-course prix fixe menus.

Lunch ($22), available 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., starts with a choice of  Devon house salad; Caesar salad or Creole gumbo. Main course selection is a choice of prosciutto mozzarella burger; salmon panzanella salad; blackened chicken penne pasta or pretzel-crusted trout. Dessert choices are triple chocolate mousse cake, vanilla bean creme brulee; mixed berries or butterscotch tart.

Dinner ($33; $44), available 4 p.m. to closing, begins with Devon house salad; Caesar salad or Creole gumbo or Maine lobster bisque (pictured). Dessert choices are triple chocolate mousse cake, vanilla bean creme brulee; carrot cake or butterscotch tart.

Main course selections for the $33 option are: jumbo crab cakes, shellfish bouillabaise, Joyce Farms half chicken, Wagyu steak and frites or maple plank salmon.

Main course selections for the $44 option are: 8oz cold water lobster tail; char crusted Ahi tuna; 8-oz center cut filet or seafood mixed grill. Tax and gratuity are not included in price. Reservations can be made at 312-440-8660.
