Timothy O'Toole's Da Coach's Birthday Salute

Timothy O'Toole's, 622 N. Fairbanks, hosts a birthday bash for da coach Mike Ditka 6 p.m. October 20. Guests are encouraged to break out the Bear's throwbacks or current garb, lap on a faux moustache and celebrate the coach's 77th birthday. The Bears vs Packers came will be screening on 74 televisions throughout the  pub. Bears-themed prizes will be given away during half time. Drink specials include: Absolut cocktails $6.50; Blue Moon pints $5; and Jack Daniel's cocktails or shots $7.

The bar is featuring a Bill Swerkski’s Super Fan food special: eat two, half pound burger patties with cheddar, jack, mozzarella and Swiss cheese, bacon, onion straws, lettuce, tomato, pickle and red onion piled high with a side of Irish nachos (pictured, $24) and receive an O'Toole's T-shirt.

Fountainhead's Great Punk'n Party

Fountainhead, 1970 W. Montrose, hosts its sixth annual The Great Punk'n Party, October 25. During the event the guests will enjoy fall-style beer, a pumpkin-carving contest and music. Tickets are $20, includes, pumpkin, a carving kit and a pumpkin-poured beer. All pumpkins are automatically entered into the pumpkin carving competition and the best pumpkins will prizes. Limited tickets are on a first come, first served basis.

Ampersand Wine Bar Pop Up Brunch

Ampersand Wine Bar Chef/Owner Darren McGraw and Executive Chef Tim Havidic (pictured) pop up 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. October 16 at Sidecar at The Long Room, 1612 W Irving Park, for a special guest chef indoor brunch a la truck-service style.

Chef McGraw hope to roll out a brunch menu soon and will use the opportunity to preview some of the dishes that include: hot smoked salmon with charred cippolini onions, poached eggs and béarnaise sauce ($13); braised beef cheek hash with roasted pepper crème fraiche, onion jam and scrambled eggs ($13); and semolina grits with arugula salad, marinated tomatoes and fried eggs ($10). 

Drinks will be provided by The Long Room. Patrons may opt for a “café cocktail” such as the The Nitty Gritty, with Laird’s Apple Jack, Fernet Branca, cold brew, simple syrup and stout ($9) or a freshly prepared cocktail from the bar.

Coq d'OR located in the The Drake Hotel, 140 E. Walton, hosts a month-long Oktoberfest celebration, modeled after the original Munich event. Beer selections include Sam Adams Octoberfest Draft, Sierra Nevada Octoberfest bottle; Leinenkugel Harvest Patch Shandy bottle. Selections are $8-$12.

Station Market's October Happenings

Staytion Market & Bar, 1 W. Wacker Drive, hosts a round of fall and Halloween-inspired events kicking off with a pick-your-own cider spice and liquor, available at the mixology station, for a one-of-a-kind seasonal cider 5-7 p.m. October 11. 

At 4 p.m. October 19 the venue hosts a pumpkins and brews event featuring local brewed pumpkin beers that includes Lakefront Pumpkin Lager and Lakefront Brandy barre-aged Imperial Pumpkin Ale.


A Dias De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event is October 31. The day-long activities include traditional Day of the Dead festivities with a Renaissance Chicago spin and Latin inspired cocktails and food samples.

D.S. Tequilla's Presidential Debate Specialty Drinks

Signs are looking for either a very heated debate or one with a surprise announcement. Either way D.S. Tequila Company, 3352 N. Halsted, is prepared , featuring two special drinks for its 2016 Presidential debate watching party beginning 8 p.m. October 9.

It's fun and puns with these drinks: the Democrazy (Sauza Blue Silver tequila, lime juice, orange juice, blueberry red bull float and blue curaco); and the red guys with the Repubilcan't Walk Anymore (Sauza Blue Silver tequila, lime juice, orange juice, blueberry red bull float and grenadine). The margaritas are $10 (mug), $22 (bowl) and $38 (pitcher).

Vanille's Cubs' Salute

Vanille Patisserie, all three locations, salutes the Chicago Cubs post season play with two winning treats the Joe Maddon Stud Muffin and Clark dessert.

The Maddon Stud Muffin: blue velvet cake, raspberry mousseline, topped with savory buttercream and a baseball design vanilla macaron; $6.85 and the Clark, a French dessert made of vanilla mousse, caramel cremeux, peanut financier and Cracker Jacks, topped with the Cubs “C” logo; $6.95 . The treats will be available beginning October 7.

Taco Joint Pitches Cubs' Post Season Play

 Taco Joint, both the River North and Lincoln Park locations, is featuring game day specials for the post season play that includes, $5 Cubbie Blue Margaritas; $3 cans of Bud and Bud Light (all day) and $2 tacos during the game (beef barbacoa; pulled pork cochinita; poblano pepper rajas). 

Taco Joint will also offer a Cubs postseason takeout special, featuring any six tacos with chips and salsa for $19.08 throughout the playoffs. The Cubs' first post season game is 8 p.m. Ocotber 7. Takeout orders may be placed online at here

Barley Angels and Links Partner for an Event

Barley’s Angels Chicago, a women’s craft beer appreciation and education group, partners with Links Taproom, 1559 N. Milwaukee, for "Where There's Smoke, There's Beer," an evening of smoked beers and links, 6:30 p.m. October 17 $25. 

Pairings and tastings, led by staff include: a tasting of two beer selections and the same as smoked versions as well a flight of house made sausages, both smoked and unsmoked versions. KAC's Sweet Anniversary Celebration

Local Chocolatier Katherine Anne Confections, 2745 W, Armitage, celebrates its 10th anniversary with a week of specials, including an anniversary truffle, October 11-16.

The main event, the Katherine Anne Confections Anniversary Festival, takes place noon to 9 p.m. October 15.
