Englewood Farm Stand opens today

Growing Home's Englewood Farm Stand opens at noon May 13 at 1844 W. 59th St. 

In addition to the market free cooking demonstrations will be held. A live demonstration from LaQuandra & Growing Home Kitchen will take place.

The stand features Englewood-grown local organic vegetables and herbs. Link, WIC and Senior Coupons are accepted. Hours for the farm stand are noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Bar Roma opens for indoor service, Wed-Sun

Bar Roma, 5101 N. Clark, is now open for indoor service Wednesday through Sunday evenings.

Chef Fred Ramos (pictured) features a spring menu that includes an array of antipasti, polpette (speciality meatballs), handmade pasta dishes, Roman-inspired entrees and more. 

Drinks include signature cocktails, amari, Italian wine and birra.

Hours for the Andersonville restaurant are 5-9 p.m. Wednesday; Thursday and Sunday; 5-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations are available here.

Prairie Grass Cafe's new meals kit from Fresh Midwest

Prairie Grass Cafe601 Skokie Blvd., Northbrook, has added three additions to its offerings via Fresh Midwest.

The new meals, which uses locally-sourced produce, are: Prime Cafe Filet Experience (two filets, two twice baked potatoes and herb butter for $79.99 (pictured)Sirloin Burger (serves two) Amish blue cheese topping with warm Mighty Vine tomatoes on the side (includes Chefs George Bumbaris and Sarah Stegner's easy to follow step-by-step burger kit; $18.99 and the Slow Roasted Salmon Meal Kit  (serves two) Verlasso salmon with slaw tossed with citrus vinaigrette created by Chef Stegner; $24.99.

Dining Out for Chicago Life annual event kicks off May 16

TPAN's annual event Dining Out For Life Chicago! returns beginning May 16. This year's event when you dine in carry out or purchase a gift card will benefit restaurants that stood by area restaurants that stood by LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities.

An online kick off event hosted by Kiki Queens, a Chicago singing charity drag troupe, takes place May 16.

Dine Out on Broadway and Sheffield, kicks off May 14

Lake View East Dine Out series returns with a weekend rotation of dining peppering the streets of Broadway and Sheffield return for alternating weekends with restaurants offering neighborhood dining excursions spring through fall beginning May 14-16.

Hours are 3-11 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through the weekend of September 17-19. More details here including what week each street plays host to the dining event.

Long Grove's For the love of Chocolate, May 14-16 updates and tickets

Registration and tickets for Long Grove’s For the Love of Chocolate Long Grove's Bite-Size Celebration are available. 

The event kicks off  with a preview party 5-7 p.m. May 14 where guested be treated to samplings and the scoop on some of the new elements included in this year's even.  Sinatra imitator Tony Ocean will perform. 

This year's adapted event due to COVID-19 have added new attractions that include the Chocolate Expo and Chocolate Experience tents, live entertainment and music lineups, chocolate vendors, and kid’s activities. 

The smaller-scale chocolate event is in compliance with COVID health and safety guidelines. Hours are: 5-7 p.m. (preview party), May 14; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 15-16. Pre-registration and tickets, which are mandatory, are available here.

Prairie Grass Cafe, 601 Skokie Blvd., Northbrook, launches the seasonal entree chopped vegetarian salad plus one cold side subscription, available for pickup Thursdays only beginning May 6, during the month; $100 for the month; $25 weekly.  


The 4-salad subscription will feature ingredients from local farms at Green City Market and  surrounding area. Cheese can be added for an additional cost.

Le Sud launches new spring menu

Executive chef Michael Woodhall of Le Sud Mediterranean Kitchen, 2301 W. Roscoe, launches a new spring menu today, available Wednesday through Sunday.

The restaurant is now open for indoor dining, and alfresco seating is offered on the spacious sidewalk cafe.

The menu is divided into small plates ($9-$16) and large plates ($15-$29). Small plate selections incorporate baby kale and manchego salad, grilled shrimp and piparra pepper, braised Spanish octopus, smoked ham and cheese croquette, fried artichoke hearts and more. 

Large plates include grilled Bavette steak "Txuleton," roasted Basque half chicken, honey glazed duck breast, grilled Sakura pork chop, salmon a la Riberena, wood grilled tri-blend burger, chitarra pasta, and pan seared scallops.

Savory side dishes ($5-$7) include: roasted fingerling potatoes, matchstick frites with aioli, white quinoa with red pepper and herbs, and mixed vegetables with breadcrumbs. 

Desserts include:  peaches and sabayon, creme brulee, chocolate torte, freshly baked chocolate chunk cookie, and sorbet of the day ($1.50-$7). 

Le Sud's spring cocktail collection includes: ($10-$12) features Layover in Spain (bulleit bourbon, px sherry, brandy, bitters), Magnolia Street (white blossom vodka, balsam, lemon, cucumber bitters), Petty Fraise (strawberry gin, earl grey simple syrup, lemon, mint), Pina Mule (blanco tequila, pineapple juice, ginger liqueur, lime juice, soda), French 75 (gin, lemon, simple syrup, sparkling wine) and Black Wave (bulleit bourbon, creme de cassis, amaro, lemon). Beer offerings include Three Floyds' Alpha King Ale, Two Brothers' Domaine DuPage French Country Ale, Lagunitas IPA, Left Hand Milk Stout by Left Hand Brewing, CO and Le Merle Saison by North Coast Brewing, CA ($7-$8).

In addition the restaurant has expanded wine program to 13 pours. venue' swine The expanded wine program's 13 glass pours highlight white, rose, red and sparkling selections from France, Italy and Spain ($9-$13). More than 30 bottled  wines, sourced from the Mediterranean region, have been added to the wine list: $36 to $60 with a reserve wine list featuring 19 selections.
