Timothy O'Toole's gets hoppy

Timothy O'Toole's Pub, 622 N. Fairbanks, gets hoppy for the holidays during the 12 Beers of Christmas punch-card event. Seasonal beers will available for sampling through December 25. However, cards completed by December 24 will be eligible to receive a beer lovers gift bag.

Staytion Bar hosts a gingerbread cookie making and cocktail event

Staytion Market and Bar, 1 W. Wacker continues its Celebrate the Neighborhood Series in holiday style with a "Ginger, Ginger," event 1-3 p.m. December 9. Guests will create their own gingerbread people cookies while sipping local ginger-based cocktails.

Hubbard Inn unveils holiday drinks

Hubbard Inn, 110 W. Hubbard, unwrapped a lineup of holiday drinks that include: Peppermint White Russian (Kahlua Peppermint, Absolut Elyx Vodka, cream, served in a rocks glass over a 2-inch ice cube and garnished with a candy cane, whipped cream and candy cane crumbles, pictured); Hot Spiced Wine (red wine, apple cider, star anise, cinnamon and cloves, served in a mug and garnished with star anise, a cinnamon stick and an orange) and Cinnamon Apple Hot Toddy (Jameson Irish Whiskey, house made cinnamon apple syrup and apple cider, topped with hot water, served in a mason jar and garnished with a lemon wedge, star anise and a cinnamon stick) $14 each.

Macello designs special disch for Bocelli concert goers

Macello Ristorante and Pizzeria, 1235 W. Lake, is featuring a special dinner for concert-goers attending the Andrea Bocelli performance, 7 p.m. December 6, United Center, 1901 W. Madison. The Italian tenor  is reported to love pecorino cheese, housemade sausage and pasta with pesto. The restaurant puts its spin on the meal with the Bocelli-inspired dish: laganelle with truffle pesto sauce, barese sausage, mushrooms and shaved pecorino cheese, available 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.  ($25). 

Wine by the bottle will be priced half off; select appetizers will be half-price 3-6 p.m. Reservations accepted: 312-850-9870.

Fans of the Primehouse, formerly David Burke's Primehouse, in the James Hotel, 616 N. Rush, might want to pay the restaurant one last visit before the doors close permanently after dinner service December 9. A new restaurant will open in its place, date and type to be determined. Although, it has been announced it will not be another steakhouse.

Chef Roby of ACK host 5th annual longest candy cane event

Chef Alain Roby of All Chocolate Kitchen, 33 Third Street, Geneva, celebrates the confectioner's 5th anniversary of his World’s Longest Candy Cane with a 10- foot-long replica of his original Guinness World Record-breaking 51-foot-long candy cane  This year's offering will be revealed at 6 p.m. December 2 at ACK. Roby will magically break the cane with his golden hammer for guests to sample. 

In addition, live reindeer will be on hand with their elf handlers for guests to greet, pet, and have their photos taken with visitors. Free goodies for kids and a live performance from members of the Alma Dance School are also on the agenda. Proceeds from the event benefit St. Jude Research Hospital.

Columbus Tap at the Fairmont, 200 N. Columbus Drive, kicks off the holiday season with the launch of its BeerVent advent-inspired calendar featuring new, small batch seasonal beers December 1-24. A new beer will be revealed daily at 11:30 a.m. on the BeerVent calendar. Guests will receive a passport and all patrons visiting daily and trying all beers in order with the item checked off in their passport will be eligible to receive giveaways selected for the occasion.

AliveOne, 2683 N. Halsted kicks off a week of fun celebrating its 21st anniversary beginning December 4 with the launch of  special drinks for the week that includes the anniversary beer, "Finally Legal" an IPA from Saugatuck Brewing ($6.50). The beer is brewed with Warrior, Simcoe, Chinook, and Columbus hops. Additional throwback drink specials for the week include: $7 Irish Car Bombs, $6 Sunny D and Absolut Vodka, $8 Red Bull and CH Vodka, and $6 Jägermeister shots.

There will also be daily specials December 4-10 that includes free pool, DJs spinning retro music, throwback drinks priced $2-$3, live entertainment and happy hour specials.

Santa arrives in Schaumburg for brunch

Shaw's, 1900 E. Higgins, Schaumburg is is hosting a Santa brunch 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. December 10. During the event Santa arrives from the North Pole to greet guests and take photos.

Special treats for the kids and the adult kids at heart, include a build-your-own hot chocolate bar with a variety of toppings to create a signature drink, a selection of homemade Christmas cookies and other sweets. The Santa brunch for kids is priced $10, ages 7-12; 6 and under eat free. Adults $45. Reservations are recommended. Families bringing a new unwrapped gift for Toys for Tots will receive a $10 give back for every toy donated.

Wells St. Market announces initial eateries

Wells St. Market, 205 W. Wacker, the new 10,500-square-foot food hall and market set to open in early 2018, has announced its initial lineup of stellar chefs bringing eateries to the venue that include Jimmy Bannos, Jr. co-owner of Purple Pig (pictured); Food Network chef Jeff Mauro and partner in Pork & Mindy will open a second location at the market; Shin Thompson chef/owner of Furious Spoon, brings the popular concept to the market and renown chef  Takashi Yagihashi of Slurping Turtles is rumored to be bringing a "new concept" to the market. The market's official opening date to be  announced later.

The bar's mixologist share recipes made with local Chicago spirits (pictured). Upcoming sessions include: Ginger, Ginger, 1-3 p.m. December 9. Guests can design gingerbread people with a variety of toppings and frosting while sampling ginger-based cocktails; A City Aglow, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. December 18, a tour about town of the best holiday light displays with the help of the hotel's guides followed by Rinehall brandy sips. The month caps off with Cheers to the New Year, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. December 31 with guests ringing in the new year with local sips and bites. Live music and Dj beats.
