Pilsen Food Truck Social is back June 10-11


The Pilsen Food Truck Social returns 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 10-11 at 18th Street and Allport. 

Food trucks include: 5411 Empanadas, Aztec Daves, Beavers Coffee & Donuts, Boo Coo Roux, Bruges Brothers, Carnivale Food Truck, Chicago Lunch Box, Da Lobsta Food Truck, DonerMen (Sunday only), Happy Lobster Truck, Haute & Ready (Saturday only), Izakaya Yume Sushi, Mrs. Tittles Cupcakes, La Cocinita Food Truck, Loop Juice, Mike's Revenge, Piko Street Kitchen, Pierogi Wagon, Caponies Express, Flying Tacos, Lucy's Tamale Spaceship, Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill, The Lifeway Kefer Shop and Yum Dum. 

Restaurants represented include: Azul18, Belli's Chicago, Benny's Pizza, Dia De Los Tamales, Doom Street Eats, Dusek's Board & Beer, Honky Tonk BBQ and Reggie's. Revolution Brewing will also be on hand.

Live music provided by Thalia Hall— see lineup. A host of other activities will be featured as well.

Sampler tickets are $20. An optional $5 donation at the gate is suggested.

Ribfest Chicago returns June 9-11



Ribfest Chicago 2017 takes place June 9-11 along Lincoln Avenue between Irving Park and Beteau. Participants include local and national vendors such as Austin's Texas Lightning; Chicago BBQ Company; Robinson's Ribs; BBQ King Smokehouse; D's and C's BBQ; Porkchop and Real Urban Barbecue. Along with a host of vendors offering the finest ribs in the city. There will be several side food events include Ribmania VIII eating contest (6 p.m. June 9) and the Culinary Food Fight Pitmaster Throwdown (noon June 10).

In addition to food and fun the event includes a lineup of music on two stages. The Bud Light Stage (Lincoln at Irving) lineup is: The Inventors (5 p.m.); Greta van Fleet (7 p.m.) and Magic Giant (9 p.m.); June 10: Dirt Creeps (noon); Dream Version (2:45 p.m. The Saps (%:15 p.m.) and Diane Coffee (7:45 p.m.); June 11: Ballroom Boxer (1:30 p.m.), The War on Peace (4 p.m.), Air Traffic Control (6:30 p.m.) and Grizfolk (9 p.m.)

The Reader Stage (Lincoln at Berteau) lineup features: June 9: Bandito (8 p.m.); June 10: Wild Skies (1:30 p.m.); American Grizzly (4 p.m.), The Whiskey Gentry (6:30 p.m.) and Susto (9 p.m.); June 11: Rebecca Rego & the Trainmen (2:45 p.m.), Nick Lynch (5:15 p.m.) and Nora Jane Struthers & the Party Line (7:45 p.m.).

Kids Square, an activity corner for the little ones will be open noon to 8 p.m. June 10 and noon to 7 p.m. June 11. 

Ribfest hours are: 5-10 p.m June 9; noon to 10 p.m. June 10-11. Tickets are $35 along with a suggested $15 at the gate. A suggested $10 or $20 donation for families at the gate gets kids a prize in the Kids Corner. One-day, three-day and gold VIP passes ($50-$500), includes food tickets, special concert seating and use of special bathroom facilities, Chicago Sky tickets.

Estelle's turns 18 in a big way



Estelle's, 2013 W. North Avenue, celebrates its 18th anniversary with a host of special events including a Miskatonic Brewery Company tapping, anniversary burger and half-price happy hour beginning 5 p.m. June 14.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with Miskatonic tappings. Drafts include: Ingenue (Belgian Farmhouse, $7/tulip), Shield Maiden (American Pale Ale, $6.50/pint), and Epilogue (Imperial IPA, $8/tulip). In addition Miskatonic Catchpenny cans will be available for $6 each. Company representative TJ Hagen will be on hand at 9 p.m. to discuss the selections.

The anniversary “Armadilla Burger” (beef patty topped with pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce, and sour cream enclosed within two jalapeƱo cheese quesadillas; $10), can be substituted with chicken or veggie patty. Also drink and food specials will be available for $3-$10, including a $6 grilled cheese menu.

Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp rolls into Navy Pier


America’s largest craft beer festival, feature more than 100 brewers, is coming to Chicago 3-7 p.m. June 10 at Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand.

The event, an initiative of second generation California brewer Brian Grossman of Sierra Nevada, and presented by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, brings hundreds of craft beers, the city’s best food trucks, and live music to the city's iconic tourist attraction.

For the cross-country event (the tour stops in seven other cities) Grossman is spotlighting a special 12-pack of craft beer from around the world. Selections include domestic brands: Boneyard of Bend, West Coast Style DIPA Oregon); The Bruery of Placentia, Raspberry Sundae California); Saint Arnold, Dry Hopped Berlinner Weisse (Texas); Avery of Boulder, (Dry Hopped Barleywine Style Ale (Colorado); Surly, Ginger Lager (Minnesota) and Tree House Brewing, East Meets West IPA (Massachusetts). 

Imported brews include: Ayinger, Dunkle Weisse (Germany), Duvel, Hoppy Belgian Style Golden (Belgium), Fuller’s, Atlantic Vintage Ale (United Kingdom), Garage Project, Campout Porter (New Zealand), Kiuchi, White IPA with Yuzu (Japan), and Mikkeller, Thai Iced Tea (Denmark).

Food trucks include: Bombay Wraps; he Little Red Donut Truck; Hot Dog Fiend; 25 Degrees; Cemitas Puebla; The Corned Beef Factory and Luella's Southern Kitchen. 

Featured live music: J-Livi and the Party (3 p.m.) and funk, hip hop, reggae band  Tropidelic out of Ohio (5 p.m.) Purchase Tickets.

Monday movies at Roof at the WIt


ROOF on theWit’s, 201 N. State, Movie Monday series kicks of at dusk June 5 with a screening of "Rogue One." Festivities include a Star Wars costume contest.

JBF Green Chicago host a tiki party


James Beard Foundation hosts its inaugural event JBF Greens Chicago event, a tiki party, 6-8 p.m. June 6, Three Dots and a Dash, 435 N. Clark; $70; $55, JBF members. 

For the occasion bar director Julian Cox, holds mixology demo featuring tiki-inspired Dos Maderas 5+3 rum cocktails to be paired with Polynesian bites. JBF events are targeted for foodies between ages 21-39. Tickets.

Cantina Laredo's new summer cocktails


Cantina Laredo, 508 N. State, unveiled a new line of new summer cocktails. The fun "Fiesta Flips" feature a lime half flipped inside out and filled with a shot of liquor. The cocktails include the French Flip (Espolón Reposado Tequila, Grand Marnier,  Monin lavender syrup,  fresh lime and margarita mix, topped with a Grand Marnier, lemon zest and basil leaf lime boat); Cabo Flip (Cabo Wabo Reposado Tequila, Grand Marnier and fresh lime, topped with a Cabo Wabo Blanco lime) and the Wild Flip (Wild Turkey bourbon, Monin blood orange syrup, fresh lemon and simple syrup, topped with a Wild Turkey, orange zest, mint leaf and Luxardo cherry lime boat). Cocktails are $12.75 each.

Lakefront at Theater on the Lake restaurant and bar

Cleetus Friedman (City Provisions and Fountainhead) has been tapped as executive chef for The Lakefront at Theater on the Lake restaurant, bar, event and theater space, at the lake near Fullerton.

The food focus will be traditional Midwest fare, the menu for the full-service, 125-seat restaurant,  plus 100-seat out capacity, venue, focusing on local seasonal foods and beverages. Opening late summer the restaurant's first official event will take place during the Chicago Air and Water Show (August 19-20). 


Leading up to the opening Chef Friedman will be hosting pop-up dinners and special events to introduce its concept. Follow the restaurants progress and special events via social media:

Potbelly's 40th birthday celebration



Potbelly's Sandwich Shop hosts a 40th anniversary celebration 10:30 a.m. to noon at its State and Lake location (190 N. State) June 1. The event introduces two limited-time birthday treats: a hand-dipped Birthday shake and a crispy marshmallow bar drizzled with frosting and sprinkles. 

In addition from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. all participating shops will offer 40 per cent off any original sandwich when guests mention the birthday.

KorFusion's make-your own-menu concept



KorFusion, 1234 N. Halsted, a fusion of  traditional family recipes from Korea influenced by American and other cultural cuisines. 

The design-your-own-menu features bao tacos, mandu (pot stickers), burritos, tacos, rice bowls, bibimbap, kimchi fried rice and jap chae (traditional Korean glass noodles). Dining guests may enjoy a unique taste of Seoul by customizing their meal through the selection of proteins, carbs, cold and hot vegetables and sauces. The restaurant also offers a bevy of non-alcoholic beverages including aloe vera water and Korean cream soda.
