The Drake Hotel's Mother's Day brunch


The Drake Hotel, 140 E. Walton, is featuring three options to celebrate Mother's Day (May 14). The hotel will offer a formal brunch 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (seatings every 30 minutes) in the Gold Coast Ballroom , includes live music by Steve Biossat Trio, family portrait and kid's festivities, $115, adults; $39, children; ages under five complimentary. Tallboy Taco salutes National Shrimp Day


Tallboy Taco, 325 W. Huron, gives a nod to National Shrimp Day (May 10) with $2 grilled shrimp taco (grilled shrimp, kale, pickled onion and lime vinaigrette, regularly $4). Guest looking to make a meal out of the deal can order two grilled shrimp tacos and a cerveza combo: $8. The taco specials will be available 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition the popular eatery launched Saturday brunch (May 6), available 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring savory and sweet dishes that include breakfast tacos such as  steak and egg, brisket and egg, Nueske bacon and egg, 12-hour smoked brisket, and crispy veggie avocado;  new brunch entrees such as Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles al Rancho, Mexican omelette and the oatmeal bowl and avocado toast. On the sweeter side there's banana French toast with a choice in housemade dulce de leche or tres leches sauce and  old fashioned churro donuts 

Brunch cocktails include the Morning Margarita (Avion reposado, yuzo, avocado puree, egg whites) and the Boozy Smoothie (smoked rum, triple sec, mango, and strawberry).  As well as the Mimosa Bottle Service with choice of six seasonal, fresh squeezed juices including watermelon, grapefruit, mango, pineapple.

Park Grill's Cinco de Mayo specials

Food and drink specials include Tecate beer ($3), chips and salsa ($5), hand-crafted margaritas ($12), beer-battered Baja fish tacos ($14), East Coast oysters ($1), enchiladas with black beans and plantain rice and surf and turf fajitas (grilled skirt steak, jumbo shrimp, roast poblano peppers, knob onion, tres chile salsa, Chihuahua cheese, black beans, plantain rice, sour cream, tortillas, $34).

Carnivale's Cinco de Mayo celebration



Carnivale,  720 W. Fulton,  salutes Cinco de Mayo with a day of food specials and fun festivities that includes a pig roast on the restaurant's patio and live music from Mariachi Monumental de Mexico and traditional chinelos dancers (6-9 p.m.).

In addition there will be lunch (fish, beef tenderloin and roast pork tacos $3 each) and dinner specials (taco platter appetizers, $24; hangar steak with bacon and potato chile relleno and sambal chimichurri, $28 and pan roasted branzino, rustic Veracruz sauce and caramelized parsnips, $32).

 Drinks include a round of Avion Tequila-based cocktails.

MAK Restaurant, 1924 W.  celebrates National burger Month with two special selections the MAK burger (half-pound of Angus beef hand-formed patty, marinated and topped with lettuce and zesty cucumbers. Roof on theWit Derby day action


Roof on theWit, 201 N. State, salutes the Kentucky Derby (May 6) in grand fashion with a party and best dressed runway contest. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. 

 All guests are welcome to enter the Best Dressed Runway Contest sign up is at 4 p.m.  The contest gets under way at 6 p.m. The Grand Prize winner will receive an all-expenses paid getaway weekend for two to the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky, the runner up will receive a reserved private cabana at the ROOF Memorial Day JetSet Kickoff Celebration. Purple Asparagus fundraiser


NBC's Siafa Lewis emcees Purple By Night , a fundraiser in support of Purple Asparagus, a nonprofit organization founded by Melissa Graham, which educates children, families and the community about eating that’s good for the body and the planet, 6-9 p.m. April 30, The Dawson, 730 W. Grand; $85, includes food and open bar featuring Lagunitas beer, Candid wines and cocktails crafted with Beam Suntory. Tickets are $95, at the door.

 The evening includes live music by local band Off the Vine and a silent auction.

Quincy Street Distillery's new handcrafted whiskey


Binny's Beverage Depot and Quincy Street Distillery owner and distiller Derrick Mancini launch North American Steamship Rye (N.A.S.R.) straight single malt rye bottled in Bond whiskey (aged four years in new oak barrels), during a tasting 6-8 p.m. April 28, in the tasting room at Binny's Lincoln Park location, 1720 N. Marcey. 

Bottles, 750 ml, 100 proof whiskey, will be available for purchase; $66.
