Lay's partners with the NFL for limited edition chips

Lay's salutes NFL fans with a lineup of team-inspired chips, Lay's Golden Grounds, chips made from potatoes grown in a mix of soil representing each NFL team. 

The chips get an assist by Hall of Fame great Jerry Rice, and even more important the brand returns for a spot, for the first time in 17 years, during Super Bowl LVI airing February 13 from SoFi Field in Los Angeles.

How to get your hands on a bag? Fans must follow Lay's Twitter @LAYS and look for the Golden Grounds sweepstakes tweets. Respond to the tweets with responses of your favorite team (pictures encouraged). 

All responses must use #LaysGoldenGrounds; #Sweepstakes along with your favorite team's hashtag. The promotion kicked off January 11 and runs through 11:59:59 p.m. (ET) January 25, 2022.

Cocoa Crawl in Long Grove, February 5

Long Grove's annual Cocoa Crawl takes place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. February 5,in t he village's historical downtown square kicking off at the village's Visitor Center, 145 Old McHenry Rd., Long Grove.

This year rather than inside the Village Center and merchant shops guests can get their cocoa fix on in heated Cocoa huts setup outside for safe and easy distribution.

Hot cocoa-related creations will be poured (at no charge) for guests who can imbibe them outdoors while strolling around the quaint village and visiting participating boutiques, shops and restaurants. More details available here.

Prairie Grass Cafe, 601 Skokie Blvd., Northbrook, kicks off a week of specials beginning January 10 with a blackened salmon burger with Caesar slaw with avocado, tomato and cucumber and spicy tarter sauce; $22. 

Tuesday (January 11): roasted chicken dinner package for two (whole roasted chicken; mashed potatoes; grilled broccolini; salad of chopped Romaine; Mighty Vine tomatoes; cucumbers; peppers; torn croutons, feta-lemon vinaigrette and chocolate pudding) $86;  pre-orders highly recommended.

Wednesday (January 12) Maine Peakytoe crab cake with citrus salad of avocado, jicama, cucumber, grapefruit, citrus vinaigrette and lemon cream; $28.

Prairie Grass Cafe, 601 Skokie Blvd., Northbrook, is offering an array of soups during January with a special "soups to Go," menu.

A variety of delectable homemade rotating soups includes: spinach, squash, parsnip and lentil. All can be frozen and reheated. The soups can also be ordered when dining in.

The Chicago French Market's updated COVID measures

The Chicago French Market, 131 N. Clinton,  has new COVID safety rules in place in accordance with the updated city ordinance that went into effect January 3.

In addition to installing Airphx air purifiers throughout the market and continuing to require face masks for all guests and staff, the following procedures are now in place.

Customers who are coming to the Market for a quick visit of ten minutes or less must wear masks, but they do not need to provide proof of vaccination.

Fully vaccinated guests  have several dine-in areas to choose from. The main dining area will be open between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. 

Bar Frietkoten, Blue Spot Sushi, Jian and A Taste of the Philippines have designated dining areas adjacent to their kiosks. In addition there is general seating adjacent to the information booth by the Clinton St. entrance. 

To expedite the guest experience an online ordering system with no third-party charges has been implemented. Guests are encouraged to pre-order for dine in, carry-out, curbside pickup or delivery. 

Curbside pickup for online orders is available Monday-Friday. As an additional support for businesses and lunch groups in the area, the Chicago French Market also offers several food catering options.

Proof of vaccination (ages five and older) and valid ID (ages sixteen and older) will be required in accordance with the new order.
