The Chicago Diner, 3411 N. Halsted, gets thumbs up from PETA for its vegan fare, rating it one of the favorite vegan restaurants outside of Hollywood and New York where celebs like to dine, noting Ellen Degeneres, Joan Jett and Lady Gaga among others have been spotted at the diner. Offerings include the Radical Reuben (corned beef seitan, grilled onions, sauerkraut, vegan Thousand Island dressing, Swiss cheese on marble rye). Sandwiches are served with a choice of side and pickle.

Preseason football is here and it's game on at DMK. The burger hamlet introduced the Midway Monster yesterday (Aug. 13), it's renamed nacho burger (taco seasoned grass-fed beef, tortilla chips, pico de gallo, Merkt's cheddar, jalapeños, sour cream) in time for the Bears' first preseason game. The MM will be available every Bears game. If you missed it the next game is Aug. 22 at Carolina.
